These are the words of Simon Maccabeus, a Jewish leader to the Greek foreign regime in the land of Israel at the 2nd century BC as recorded in the first book of the Maccabees - an apocryphal work recounting the victories of the Maccabees over the Syrian Greeks and the rededication of the Second Temple in Jerusalem in 164 BC.
