All the boomers will say "Vortex sucks, go Leupold" even though Leupold are also known to have a wandering zero. Buy a quality scope from any brand and it will be just fine. Viper is one of the higher range of models from Vortex, its a good scope. Get whatever magnification works for you. Open country a 6.5 min is fine, if you're hunting more wooded areas a 4-12 or 2-10 would be good.
