The 300-ish range is with the low end battery and I think, starting this year, Ford is putting the extended range batteries standard in more of their models.
Ford is pretty bleeding-edge, I'm not surprised they jumped the gun and got bit. Toyota is doing the opposite, last I looked, and hadn't made any decisions on their EV truck offerings because they were not yet comfortable with the batteries.
