Edmonton has an average of 83 days a year that the temperature doesn’t get above freezing. The majority of those have to be after local lakes freeze over. You would have to factor in how many days it got warm enough to reduce ice, which isn’t +1° I’m sure.
I think somewhere along the line the accurate numbers got altered in this rule. I’m not sure why I’m trying to make sense of it, lol.
