Another option to avoid controversy is just to do away with a national anthem altogether. Who really gives a rats? Its not like Canada piles up a ton of Olympic medals anyways, it'd speed up pretty much every sporting event considerably, save a lot of rising/sitting and spilled beers, and spare my ears from all the lame artist renditions.
If we must have one I'd compromise for changing it up so that each and every word in it is from a different country, dialect, and tribal language so nobody feels left out. Then I'd pay to see a no longer and likely never was artist sing it.
Ohhh... Danish, Ukrainian, Bantu, Korean, Parsis, Sikh, Cree, Mongolian...
