Prices for pelts back in the early 1900's were high because fur was still king. Everyone important had to have a fur coat or three. In the mid 1900's there were a few full time furriers opened in Edmonton alone. Now there is maybe one furrier. Few people wear fur now and fur is not the status symbol it once was.
