I back in, I find that when you're backing in its you that has the right of way so being the more difficult of the two motions one should take advantage of that. Driving vans with no back windows got me into that habit. My new van is even bigger but has a back up camera but I still find it easier to manoeuvre in backwards to be properly parallel as opposed to driving in forwards and requiring more corrections. Of course when possible I select distant spots with less congestion or drive straight through one spot to be lined up to exit the other. My van is 23' long bumper to bumper so the turning circle isn't very Corolla-like.
