There was no clarification in the store or on your paperwork (receipt), signage in store expresses that they will happily return items within 90 days. If you wanna spend time fighting it, I'm sure you would probably win, the store should have happily returned your money, and fixed their problem, instead of making it yours. The no return policy, and the fact that there was no demo would have probably, rerouted your choice, but fighting this will be very similar to banging your head on a brick wall!
