When my son was about 10 years old he pulled up a perch that would have been the Montana state record, but we didn't know it so we ate it. We knew it was big so we weighed it and if I remember right it weighed 2.4 pounds. It was about 20 years ago, so I might be off on the weight. We were fishing for Northern Pike and he caught it on a dead smelt on a treble hook. I was telling a friend about the perch the next summer and he said he thought it was bigger than the state record, so we checked and it was. I suspect a lot of record size fish have ended up in a frying pan.....
