FYI - Bears with cubs are complete wildcards. You never know what they are going to do. Regardless whether they are Blacks or Grizzlys. My brother encountered two black bear cubs while out in the bush. He didn't see the mom so he thought he would climb a tree to be safe, a big hoary spruce. The Sow came along, picked up his scent, and came up the tree after him. 5 times, down the tree, then back up. No provocation other than being near her cubs.

I have encountered a bear with a cub. One good holler and she and the cub took off.

Never assume anything when cubs are involved.
