I have a buddy who hunts out there with a group of guys every year at the end of September. I think in the past 6 years that I've known him, they have only killed one bull. I'm not sure exactly what part of the wmu? I have hunted there a scattered time myself, and I hardly see any game other than whitetail does. And ruffed grouse.
That being said, I haven't gone too far off the main roads. And stayed on the east side of the wmu. If you put in the work, you could have some luck! As for predators, I've heard the same as you, littered with Wolves, bears and most likely Cougars too? But who knows? Good luck if you do go along.
