Yep a few of the bites I had last night I just dropped the line in and let the current take the line under the obstructions and then just gently pulled it back against the current.
The main reason I needed to cast a fair distance was there were plenty of spots where you couldn't get to the bank so had to cast to those spots from a distance away.
