Rogers Pass Delapitated Buildings

Could not help but notice all those buildings up at the top of Rogers Pass today are falling into a state of disrepair. Now today I noticed the blue tin roof has been ripped off and just wood exposed on one section of roof.

Looks like our Parks are too broke to look after.

From a touristic point of view makes Canada look like a poor third world country that is being mismanaged.

Anyone know what happened to the hotel and visitor Center?

Must be infested big time now with mice and such.

just wait for the squatters

Uncle Steve gutted maintenance crews, just wait a few years.

Who owns the buildings? Clearly the government didn't own the gas station and gift shop

Noticed the same in a state of disrepair a few weeks ago, I guess they don't want to encourage people to stop in a potentially dangerous area that has a history of avalanche devastation. I used to crash in the bunk of the old Western Star up there in the winter over night and never knew the danger. Youth, aint it wonderful. D.H.

Was in the visitor centre to return some fluids on sunday- was well kept looked fine. The hotel/restaurant etc looked pretty shabby though.

we drove past last week thinking the exact same thing. thinking they might be privately owned?

harsh environment for manmade structures.

i noticed the road is really cracked, like needing a fresh topcoat of asphalt.
but i got big rims and small wall tires on the caddy so i was feeling it

Great Article

Thanks Steve that explains things. You would think Parks Canada would move a little more swiftly.

I did not know the buildings were privately owned but I actually sent Parks Canada a message just last weekend regarding this. Was funny to see this thread right after[emoji2]! IMO those buildings are of historical signifigance and are iconic landmarks. Its sad to see our heritage eroded and erased.[emoji20]

The owner use to own Crystal Sands on Mara lake, sold it, built the biggest house on Mara Lake(at the time), then bought a strip mall in Sicamous along with other large purchases. I think he thought he was invincible, then bought the park lodge, over extended himself and....blam, bankrupt. A lot of people think `it couldn't of happened to a nicer guy'. I never knew him but he burnt many bridges in the area, thus moving to revelstoke. Just a little background fwiw
