Recommended Zero for 28 Nosler/7mm STW
 

I’m wondering what you guys who are shooting the 28 Nosler/7mm STW are using for a zero? Normally I have just used a 200yd zero for most of my rifles but I’m thinking I could probably stretch it out a little further with the 28 Nosler?

I used to use a 300 yard zero for the 7mmstw,, before switching to a BDC reticle.

Only you know the ranges you are likely to be shooting at but I found 265 yds zero to be ideal for most any of the common hunting cartridges with the bullet weights you will likely be using. That is the zero I set on my 7STW/160 and also the zero I have on my .35 Whelen /250 gr. and 338-06/ 210 gr, and 30-06 180 gr and the various 6.5's /140 gr. If, for some reason you have to thread the needle, it's much easier to judge a 3" low hold at 50 or 75 yds than to judge a 10"+ high hold at 600 or 700 yds or more . That's just my approach to sight in. You know the drill on BDC reticles and spinning turrets.

any idea where you are at 100, 200, 400 and 500?

Never though of zeroing my STW past 200, I may be doing this

Around 2-3/4" high at 100, just over 3" high at 200, about 7" low at 400, and 18-19" low at 500. That is with my 140gr load.

x2 I use to sight my stw the very same way and never had a problem,i kinda got hung up on it and do the same with my 7mm rm with a 160.

Once you get use to it and you know where your poi is at 100 to 500 why change.

That’s a flat trajectory, just what I’m hoping to get out of this rifle.

everything I have gets a 3" high at 100 yards unless its a varmit gun, then 1" high.

You will get it no to ways about it,what twist KURT on this 28 nosler .Is it an 8 or 9 twist.So simple to remember when things are happing fast,there's turrets and this or that ,but this system is very fast for me if I stay in the 500 yrd and under zone. If I am in a rush at 500 plus chances are I would pass.

That is with a 140gr bullet at 3500fps.

It’s a 1:9 twist, this won’t be a designated turret twister, it’ll have the Leupold cds turret but the idea is to be a point and shoot rifle.

Same here including 7 STW 140 gr.

My 300 Win Mag has Swarovski 3.5-18x44 ballistic turret 4W reticle. It is set for 3" high at 100 yards. I can use turret up to 600+ yards with 180 gr bullet.

I use something similar on my 7 RUM except it is 3" high at 100, 3.9" high at 200, zero at 310. This is with a 162 grain .550 B.C. bullet at 3250 FPS. Basically hold on fur out to 450 yards.

All my hunting rifles are 3-3.25 high at 100. Makes switching between guns a whole lot easier. They also have verified drop cards taped to the stock on all of them.
