Bear Meat/Fur

Whats the rule of thumb for which season is best?

Meat in spring or fall?
Same with coat?

Also, taste difference between the 2 season?

Thanks.

My taxidermist says spring bear has the best fur and I tend to agree as I have both a spring and fall bear mounted in my house. But u have to get the spring bear early enough before rubbings and fall bear late enough that it’s think.

Spring bears have the best hides as long as you shoot the bear before they rub

Eating I like spring bears because they are leaner but a early fall berry fed bear is good too. I am not a fan of the extra grease and fat in the fall but it really just needs more trimming

Always found fat fall bears to be the best grits.
Excellent flavor as compared too...
And, we render down all the fat into beautiful bear lard.
Grown rather used to and fond of that stuff...

Cheers,
Nog
