EID shutting it down Oct.1

Just in case no one is aware of it, EID is shutting down access to Crawling Valley for boats and vehicles as of Oct. 1. All gates will be locked at the campground until freeze up and when they deem safe for lake access. This was posted in the campground office. I'm wondering if the same will be for Newell and Rolling Hills?

Rolling Hills is already closed for the season. As of now the plan is to keep Newell open all year.

They better stay open. I am getting sick of launches being closed by October if not before. Chin used to be open until Thanksgiving monday but now this year they close up middle of September and they doubled the launch fee this year for a shorter season. I unlike most am out fishing in my boat until the end of October, leave the gates open!!!

deschambault 09-25-2019 08:03 AM

They have on one checking boats for invasive species so they shut the gate. Newell is a provincial park so I doubt the EID has jurisdiction.

I have been going to CVR for years and NEVER has anyone ever come out and inspected my boat, whether there was one person or three people behind the counter....I must have an honest look to the ol' mug....

The EID has installed gates at all the boat launches in Crawling Valley, Rolling Hills and Newell. Once the Rolling Hills Campground and Crawling Valley campground shut down for the season, the EID is intending on locking those gates. Rolling Hills will be closed until next camping season, Crawling Valley until ice has formed on the Lake. As of now the plan is to keep Newell launches open, but there are gates there, and they can be used at any time.

Same here. I have my sticker from them and they never looked again. 2 years ago I fished right till the November at CVR

deschambault 09-25-2019 06:46 PM

I agree that they never seemed to look up as I drove by their office but I had a seasonal site and seasonal boat slip so I just assumed they recognized me. Prior to last year we used to come out for the day once in a while during October but not last year. We also used to bring a camp stove and fry up a pike for fish tacos but no longer. I sure sound old talking about the old days. Sigh.

Did you get a salvage permit. For the fish trapped in the canal. The Hutterites used to clean house, selling Walleye etc. Those they diodn't sell went for pig feed.

We were at Newell Sunday, they launched a boat & pulled the playground/swim area buoys but left the marina entrance buoys in place for now.

There is no reason to close them that time of year at all and don't give me the invasive species BS. I have fished in the boat 20 days since opening and have not gone though an inspection once this summer, so they cant be that concerned. The amount of people using the launch that time of year is minimal so the risk is almost non existant. They put gates across the launch at Newell and I will be launching from the beach, it wouldn't be the first time!

rupert 10-02-2019 07:19 PM

Is there anywhere u can check online to see the status of the boat launches that r controlled by smrid? They should not be allowed to close them willy nilly whenever the hell they want.:mad3:

deschambault 10-03-2019 12:10 AM

Actually the EID has built and maintained the reservoirs, campgrounds and boat launches so I would think they do have the right to close them.

rupert 10-04-2019 09:09 AM

The farmers pay for it in the end so maybe they should say when they close. Have u ever drove an hour to find the $#%$^% gate locked. Does SM post it online or anywhere?

That's ok. I have this week off and I'm going to pack up the boat for the next 8 months of snow and cold season. Sucks big time. What did we have, 4 months this year almost warm? Wind and rain!!! Global warming huh?

Wes_G 10-05-2019 09:44 AM

8 months... You could narrow that down time to 6. I put the boat in May 11th this year and still have a good 3 weeks left!

barbless 10-06-2019 09:07 AM

Ya I could get maybe another month if the snow melts off the boat by May long and that's when I usually get it ready for BC fishing. I could also wait another week before it really freezes. I usually winterize the beginning of Oct. anyways. Was just kind of a joke the 8 months but if you think about it, ice forms in Oct. and don't leave till May. We have been on the lakes before and there has been a very thin layer of ice in Oct. the only way we could troll was to let the boat break a path. :sHa_sarcasticlol:

I don't know where you are fishing but we are usually out at Police in the boat the beginning of May, sometimes before the end of April. And I have never seen ice around Lethbridge untill the second week of November.

barbless 10-08-2019 10:02 AM

I look outside this morning and my boat is buried under snow again. Guess I'll have to count down the months. :sign0161:
