Practice until you can consistently hit a 4-6" circle out to 30-40 yards. If you can only hit it consistently out to 20 yards, then don't shoot past 20 yards at a live target. Bow hunting is not easy, you have to work at it, and be patient. You also owe it to all the responsible hunters on this forum to do your homework. It's not hard to search up hunting requirements in Alberta. You need to take a hunters education course. And you need to understand the laws and regulations from one wmu to the next. Read the regulations, then when you think you understand them, read them again!!! Good luck!

Contact your local fish and wildlife office and they will get you going... there is a hunter trailing course that you will need to take before you can hunt....

You need your alberta hunter education course, WIN card and then you purchase your bow hunting permit and tags. Practice with the bow as much as you can.

You can't hunt during the summer. Bow season starts in September.

Look at
http://www.albertaregulations.ca/huntingregs/

http://www.aheia.com

https://www.albertarelm.com/licensing.page

Read the regs numerous times and learn the rules. There are hunting opportunities in the summer but limited to rabbits, etc. No large game, no ducks, grouse etc.

Once again. Read / learn the regs numerous times

Trailing other hunters to find their secret hunting spots is a brilliant way to start in the sport-But may not win you many friends if they see you:sHa_shakeshout:

Buy a cross bow ... they are the best newfangled archery equipment since william tell shot an apple off fred bear's left shoulder at 82 yard's ... or was it fred bear shootin a hair off william tell's left nut ... anyway they are the best .

If your using a compound bow do the following:
1. It's a good idea to take your bow to an archery shop and have a bow technician look at the bow.
2. If it's used you may need a new sting, have draw length and peep set for you.
3. Start with the bow set a lower poundage because it's easier to develop your shooting form.
4. You will need arrows with the proper spine (flex and length) for your draw length.
5. If possible go to a shop that has practice lanes so you can work on your form.
6. Buy a target butt so you can shoot at home.
7. Practice as much as you can and hone your skills.
8. Have fun.
