Alec Jackson chironomid hooks
Had a reasonable (but not red hot) session on a local Edmonton area lake today using a black/red Ice Cream Cone (snow cone) tied on an Alec Jackson #14 chironomid hook. 'Bows up to 16 inches nicely hooked in the snout and very easily released. Hook did not deform or straighten at all, unlike certain Mustad hooks in an earlier outing.
Bought on-line from Canadian Llama in Kamloops. Pricey, ~$10 for 25, but well worth it! |
Glad to hear you're catching a few.
What depth were you fishing at? Hoping to get out for a few hours this week some time. Thanx, Stan |
I will echo your observations about the AJ hooks. They work great.
If you prefer slightly less expensive, but top notch quality, the Daiichi 1120 are the same shape as the Mustad C49 and do not bend and distort like the c49's. The Daiichi 1760 are similar in shape to the AJ hooks, just as bullet strong and are less expensive as well. Again, all from Canadian Llama. |
Another really good hook, in my opinion, are the Tiemco 2499SP. My fav for chironomids or curved nymphs.

Tiemco 2457 never fail
