How's everyone doing with Coyotes?

Hung 7 snares at one bait site last week and picked up 3 coyotes. Two of them were pups so that sounds good. Two days ago I hung snares at two other sites but the coyotes have avoided the bait site for the time being. Hoping for a bit of fresh snow forecasted for Saturday to freshen things up a bit. How's everyone else doing?

Been real warm down here DAVE , nothing touched my week old bait yet .We've shot a few and they look great .

Have one bait in at home and only one coyote in 7 days now. First week of December looks like a bit of a cool down in my area.

Foothold line was doing well but 10 days now without a sniff.

MugEye 11-25-2016 12:26 PM

I did a leg hold line from oct1 to now , 2 dog , 5 yotes ,6 fox and one squirrel on 15 dirt hole sets . Not a hair since November 5 . To many gut piles in the bush I guess. My first year with leg trapping so I'm pretty happy about that . Pulled my line late night and switched to snares.

Hello these look to be snared and caught back far back on neck, little bit of waterhead, what type of snaring system are you using, nice looking yote's for sure

Bowhntr4life 11-25-2016 08:41 PM

Hey guys, I don't trap, but I sure hate coyotes. Thanks for your persiatence in killing these pests. I've always believed trapping is a lot more effective than hunting. Hopefully the temps drop and we get some snow soon!

Keep up the good work. Hope y'all make a pile of cash to pay for your gas and time!

Been slow for me , waiting for colder weather .

Tfng 11-25-2016 09:18 PM

I've had one bait going for a week and caught 4 coyotes. It does seem a little slow. I've been stockpiling bait for when I get more time.

50% mange so far.

Gboe8 11-25-2016 10:39 PM

Been extremely slow for me snaring sence the begging of November. Caught about 40. Running 7 baits limited tracks. A lot slower then last year. Majority being pups which is good. But 25 percent Mange and mites.

HunterDave 11-25-2016 11:29 PM

Well, it's nice to know what other guys are experiencing. I expected things to be slow for a few days after hanging a bunch of snares so it's too soon for me to figure things out.

I think that super moon may have had something to do with it being a little slow. Lack of snow can't be great either. Every 50 feet that I walked hanging snares the other day I had mice crossing my path. They have to be easy pickings for the coyotes. Tomorrow I'll be hanging more snares at my first bait site and then wait on the snow that we are supposed to get tomorrow night. Maybe that'll spruce things up.

slow for me too. snares have been out for almost 2 weeks and only got 1 mangy coyote and a nice fox.

Been fairly slow here in Sask for me. Behind were I was at last year for numbers, but I have had no mange or mites like last year. Caught 10 Coyotes(all keepers), 2 fox in about 10 days.

I believe this one of the main reasons IMO and the fact that there is no snow easy to catch mice and chase down bigger game and all that free vicsera don't help either.

Tfng 11-26-2016 03:02 PM

I just saw a pair of coyotes out mousing around some wheat swaths. Probably should have shot them but snared coyotes have me spoiled.

357xp 11-26-2016 06:42 PM

Tons of yodels around here. Hung up a few snares today. Nailed a nice fox with the .223, it's drying in the garage at the moment.

Tfng 11-26-2016 07:10 PM

Two nice ones tonight!

BeaverJim 11-26-2016 08:18 PM

4 out of 10 with mites already

No, but they were about 100 yards from a bait site I haven't started yet this year!

H380 11-27-2016 07:21 AM

Dogs finally hit the bait site I droppewd 10 days ago , cleaned it up in one night so I'm expecting good things now .:sHa_shakeshout:

spoiledsaskhunter 11-27-2016 08:54 PM

funny how it goes. they were on my bait every night.....then they totally stopped for a week, then night before last they came back.

something musta scared them.

Tfng 11-27-2016 09:03 PM

I started two more baits tonight and hung a handful of snares at each. I find it hard to pick out good places for snares in the dark. Everything takes way longer than it should.

Got one good coyote at my existing bait.

Did they hit the bait again/catch any 380? Still really slow SE of Calgary, baits been ice cold for a week now.

HunterDave 11-29-2016 12:24 AM

Did my checks today and saw that someone dropped off what was left of a beboned mulie that was shoulder shot. Never disturbed any snares, just threw the carcass in the bait pile. That was nice of him. Good people around here, I'm very lucky.:)
