Official Igloo Post

Each year to get some exercise I build an igloo. I saw some pics of Treeguy's doghouse and thought I'd share some pictures of "Igloo 5-point-Oh"
Igloo 5.0 12ft wide x 10 ft long x 8 feet tall I'll post some more pictures as it takes form, I've just finished accumulating all my "building materials" and should have it hollowed out by the weekend. (it's actually a Quincee, not an Igloo) :bad_boys_20: |
Very cool...thanks for sharing!

Cool but I think your door is way too big.
|
Cool stuff, did/are you going to Sleep in it?
|
spray it with some water and make the outer layer harden up will probably last longer

Backyard igloos are fun. My roommate builds them in my backyard every year if the weather cooperates. Last winter's one was impressive enough that it made the local news.
http://edmonton.ctvnews.ca/edmonton-...hild-1.1128286 His are all just piled and hollowed out snow with a few snow blocks if he can find any to go up more without having to go wider in the base. |

Last year he built a stinky sized one. No one but him could fit in it, I am sure I posted the video. I think it was 2.5-3 feet high and you had to army crawl in and out of it. He made one at my office last week when I dragged him into work with me during the lovely weather we had on tuesday. He wanted to smack the snow plow driver with the shovel for getting to close to it. |
If anyone needs any building material I have a yard full, free Bee.

Nice! Built a igloo couple years back with a small door. We would light a candle and have a few drinks in there. Those thick snow walls keep out all the outside noise...very peaceful. At least till some drunk ***** tries to jump out from inside! :sign0161:

A couple of my buddies built this, the ultimate snow fort last New Years. Complete with a bar, DJ booth, multiple rooms and a fireplace. You know it's awesome when it requires a tractor to pile the snow up.....

VERY cool stuff you guys. Thanks for sharing. :)
Not to split hairs, but hollowing out a mound of snow I believe goes by a different name than igloo does it not? We cut blocks from the hard packed drifts and gradually set them accordingly until the final piece locked into place. Regardless of symantics, awesome stuff for sure. :sHa_shakeshout: |

Well I've been able to enjoy it for the last month and thought if add some more pics. It ended up being 12ft Deep X 16ft Long X 9ft Tall.
Seats 16 ppl easy with standing room for me (6'4") and a snow bench wrapping the interior wall. You enter the tunnel (red blanket frame-right), under the steps, and hang a 180 after a cpl feet to head back inside. I'll add a couple pictures of the inside when I find them |
