Lotting Letters

Anyone got they're lotting letter yet?

rbsask 02-02-2017 05:49 PM

Nafa says feb.4 the grades will be up.

H380 02-02-2017 07:33 PM

They have been rather slow in the past, hope rbsask is right

If you log into your account it says the catalog and lotting letters will be up feb.4 same day as the first day of inspection. I hope they don't push it back.

HunterDave 02-02-2017 09:09 PM

It says "by February 4" so they could be posted tomorrow.

"Catalogues and Lotting Letters for the February 2017 auction will be posted by the first day of inspection on February 4."

No numbers showing in my "Current Season Receipts" for the fur that I brought in for this auction. What's weird is that the "Current Lotting Letter (Valuation)" has re-appeared in my account with one muskrat that didn't sell last year. Muskrats aren't even being sold in this auction. I guess that they are making progress though. Gonna have to wait until tomorrow.

spoiledsaskhunter 02-04-2017 07:53 PM

asterisk indicates 'labelled skins', whatever that means!

That means your pelt is labelled, the buyer of this lot will get a label which will be sewn into any garment made with your pelt,it shows a high standard of handling and care was taken to put up the fur, congrats

HunterDave 02-04-2017 07:58 PM

My best is 417. Out of 29 I managed to get two MED and the rest were all DK, DBR, DBR-BR and DK-DBR. I think that I have brown covered.

Last April I had one grade the same and the lot average sold for CD$174.53. It's a gooder!

rbsask 02-04-2017 08:43 PM

Got one in the 3rd lot. First select I've ever got on coyotes.

Glad I picked the better looking and easier shot of the 2 that came into the call on that set.

How do I end up with two DG3 pelts? No shot dogs, no shoulder mites, no junk sent in........damaged in drumming I wonder?

Seems to be always a few mysterys ...i agree

HunterDave 02-04-2017 10:04 PM

Based on last year's prices I'm at about a $90 average even with those two $8(?) pelts so I'm not going to sweat it too much. I do wonder why they graded damaged though.

Powder monkey 02-05-2017 12:53 PM

Last years second sale at nafa coyotes were graded very hard. The first and second sale I had same quality of coyotes but on the second a bunch of mine graded damaged. Somebody made some money on those but it wasn't me.

Must have been some of those when the auctioneer said "who's ready to steal some hides"

I have attended 4 or 5 May sales, and each time spent a great deal of time looking thru the samples to see where many types of coyotes are placed in the grades, particularly the damage grades.

According to what I saw on the last trip, the Damaged 1,2,3 grades were comprised of screwed up coyotes mainly from lice/mite damage, burr damage, rubs and other such screwed up coyotes. The sew jobs were just about all in the Slight Damage grades. A lot of coyotes that end up in the damage grades have these types of damage and often it takes a trained eye to see it and is a whole other thing to understand it.

philintheblank 02-06-2017 08:44 AM

I have sent in some very well furred pelts that had substantial leather defects from scars and bites from some kinda parasite all over the flanks and back. I always wondered if they were the ones getting picked apart by the graders.

I couldn't tell from the hair side that the leather was crap, but after watching that beaver DVD it would not surprise me if that was the reason.

That's some good info. I always pick my best to send to auction and still manage to miss one or two and they show up with a damage grade. I also think that its possible there could be some slipping after the hide is submitted. Especially under warm weather conditions and those coyotes that have gorged themselves resulting in the belly turning green quick ( like overnight!). Even the hair slipping away from the leather in a small section would be enough to grade damaged. Just my thoughts. On another topic, I have never had this many coyotes grade " MED" usually I get slightly over 1/2 grade "MED" but this batch has over 3/4 grading that way.

APAShooter 02-06-2017 03:15 PM

Here's one for you... if GD stands for GOOD .. and PR stands for POOR .. what is with a couple of my lots listed as GD,PR ??? What do you suppose that means.. GOOD,POOR??

Marty S 02-06-2017 05:05 PM

Probably means a mixed lot, doesn't mean I like it tho. Same goes for colouring, always many super Alberta/Saskatchewan pale coyotes but again in this sale, most of them do not get graded GC and that always pains me. There's like 300-400 GC only?

Is it because there's only 18,000 coyotes and usually 1,000,000 ranch mink? I don't know. I do know what pays the bills there.

However, when all said and done... Nafa is the very best place to sell coyotes. The highest paying buyer in the world buys all his coyotes at Nafa, so ya kinda want ta have your stuff in front of him?
