Garage organization- does it EVER end???
 

Almost every wall is used, equipment against, bolt bin, shelves, cupboards, etc. I cleared up a little space today and put up a salvaged piece of slat board which I think will work well, but man it never ends! :sign0176:

You can't just throw it all out, stuff accumulates, you buy more, sell some, use it, but the walls are shrinking! :scared0015:
I have a seacan full of stuff, 2 mini barns and my shop is jammed. :mad3:
Sure there are a few jerry cans that are empty, but can't just toss them, there is no gas station here. I have all the power tools; table saws, chop and cut off saws from building the house and garage that don't get much use, but they need to be stored somewhere. Lawn machines get 1 mini barn, seacan holds the big riding mower and JD with FEL, tires, etc.

Do you guys use floor to ceiling cupboards and a step to access it, or attic access, or???

Does anyone use high shelving in their garages? Is it handy or just another place for things to get lost and grow cobwebs?

I hear (from my wife :)) that some people park cars in their garages. Don't see how that is possible. :sHa_sarcasticlol:

I am completely out of wall space. The guy who built the place put a window in the garage; what a waste. That would be another 3 feet of shelving.

Sounds like my garage,the wife is always on me to get rid of stuff but what to get rid OF?The minute I get rid of something I need it the next day.And despite the messy look,I know exactly where to lay my hands on whatever it is I need.Must be a guy thing filing system.

Ken...if you ever get that figured out i have a shop at home that could use some love and attention..we built a mezzanine in it a few years ago...and all that did was free up some space in the shop to put more stuff i don't need into it...it is a never ending battle no matter what size of garage/shop a person has...so i have come to realize that "size" really doesn't matter after all.

I just did this, have to find some more hooks and it will help a lot, at least will keep clutter off my welding/workbench. 32 hooks used, thinking another 40 and I will be good.

The estate sales these old guys have are always so awesome.

I plan on serious downsizing before I get to the point where I can no longer handle all my stuff.

Really, how much stuff do you really need? There is a point where it becomes a big problem and a huge time waster.

Maybe a little downsizing is in order. Ask yourself - do I really need three of everything? That old car or truck that I was going to restore should go because it's already sat around for 15 0r 20 years. It will likely never get done, and besides that, you could probably buy a better one that somebody else has already fixed up.

I'd rather spend time fishing right now than worrying about lack of wall space for another cupboard or worrying about the organization of the bolt bins.

They go in the 'hidden area' of the boys bedroom, where we cribbed in a storage spot that would have just been useless 16' entry way!

THIS is hands down the best thing I ever bought for the garage. LOVE IT!!!

this is what the seacan is being used for, after organizing it the tractor sits 12' back from the door and tons of room left

Just dealing with the same thing at home now too... Kids just don't put anything away, Incredigirl is adamant that we won't be building a shed... And I still have yet to build my meat-hanging rack!

Should stop calling it your garage and just call it your toy room. The lift is nice, but you could probably use one more. Summer toys on top in the winter, winter toys on top in the summer, though I do not see a sled so maybe you could get some cupboards with castor wheels to store 'winter stuff' and 'summer toys' respectively.

snap op metal shelves at Costco....can join them together to make longer units. 10 000 lbs per unit. Space them about 3' apart, just like a store.

I've heard about this parking cars in garages thing........kinda hard to do when your kayaks are hanging from the roof and your garage door opener is unplugged!

You may want to try this for smaller things like bikes, etc.

Ken. As you know I spend a considerable amount of time on the ground.
My dilemma is a shortage of floor space.
Not too much goes up high. Like more than 4'.

What to do?
No, garage and shed organization never ends.
I spent some summer holiday building a shed for tires and other things.
I needed to give myself a year notice prior to the chore. Ha

That garage is another project.

Imagine the inside of my 4 door truck x a lot.
Anything higher than 4' on a shelf and I need to build scaffold to get at it.

Maybe one of those lifts in my garage would work ?

i have lots of cupboards and shelves (and outdoor storage sheds and racking) and still it is never enough.

I hear you. I even store stuff on top of the seacan on pallets, to get it out of the way. Forklifts are awesome!

I was looking for a way to store my Thule Boxster.. Think I may have just found it.. I had a manual way all figure out.. But this is way cooler..

Probably my OCD, but I can't stand seeing the garage openers in the middle of the ceiling..

3800's are shaft drive.

Ken I'm coming over, I can use that lift for a year solid for the vehicles I have to work on.

Btw I'm jealous of it, and how high is that ceiling?

In 10 years I've filled a 72 x 22 pole barn. The 26 x 24 shop. A 20 x 12 covered garage type thingy.

Right now I'm building a 20 x 15 building with a one pitch roof. 10' high on one side & 8' on the other.
Inside 3' wide shelves to the roof. Other side 2' wide shelves to the roof.
Then all the stuff in the 20 x 12 will go into it.
Plus a bunch of shop stuff......including Pinto parts.

Needed to make room for the rotisserie for the #2 Pinto build.

Plus, I'm still trying to gather all I need to build a new 42 x 30 pole barn.
30' deep to park boat, car hauler trailer etc.
I have most of the 6" gas line pipe for the up-rights. All the tin.
Looks like I may end up having the buy the pile pipe.
One bay will have a "loft" built above the bay used for the car hauler, for even more storage space.
