Remington 700, Or Tikka T3?
Im buying a .308 and i have read allot about both the Remington 700 and the Tikka T3, and seen lots of comparisons but i want to know which would be better for the .308 caliber specifically. Tell me your thoughts and preference and why you prefer that rifle.
Thanks. |
Or tell me if you have another suggestion on a different rifle of the same caliber.
|
That really depends on what models you are considering. Generally speaking, I would say that most would find the Tikka more consistently accurate. Though I am sure that there are hundreds of people who get wonderfully accurate Remingtons right out of the box. Tikka will also be a lighter rifle and have a very nice adjustable trigger. Good value, IMO.
Don't worry though, you will have a number of people shortly point out the merits of a Remington. |
I have had a Remington 700 chamber for 30:06 for over 30 years, damned near 35, and love the gun. Versatile caliber, nice to shoot, accurate enough on factory loads, goes anywhere does anything kind of gun. Having said that, I bought my son a T3 chambered for 30:06 (his choice) and now want a T3 for myself! Just to scratch that itch I'll likely buy a T3 chambered for 243 and use it for a deer gun in the years that I don't get a draw for moose or elk. The T3 has the smoothest action I've ever seen.

I have 2 tikkas, one in 30-06 and one in .223 my buddy has a rem. 700 BDL or CDL ( can't remember which) we both kill animals just as dead. My tikka fits me way better than any 700 that I have picked up though, so I would go with fit over brand name

I don't think you will ever regret the T3. Remington is a gamble at best.
|
If you just want an out of the box shooter get the Tikka, if you want an upgradable shooting system with ultimate accuracy potential the 700 Rem makes a better platform. Don't worry about making anybody but yourself happy with your choice.
|
If you go rem, go with the higher end models , BDL, CDL, mountain, etc. NOT the sps.
Also the 700 will have a short action, the T3 will not. The 700 is also available with detach clip. If weight is a determining factor and you want detach go with the mountain DM. Oh yeah, if your a fan of plastic, go with the T3.:scared0018: |
i have 2 700's , i love them both , and they are wicked accurate.

forget the Tikka T3 and the 700,....get a Weatherby Vanguard or a Sako A7..both miles ahead of the others for a new off the rack rifle...YMMV.
..and get a 7-08 |
My preference lies with the rem700 because of all the aftermarket parts and upgrades available. I don't have experience with the Tika, but I did start out with a Sako a7. I broke the stock from using a bipod (less than 100 rounds) and when I called them, they said "their stocks were not designed for this. Its only for using a carry strap". A replacement was going to be $600 (and I can't shoot it with a bipod). A McMillan a5 is only $800 and it won't break. Its still on order... Also, if you want to try and make the gun more accurate, there doesn't seem to be much that a gunsmith can do with these guns. I ended up going to the Remington 5r milspec and couldn't be happier. Parts/accessories are everywhere and it is an excellent shooter. It was a little picky with what ammo it likes, but after some time at the range, I've found 4 good options. The triggers on the R700 are hit and miss too. The trigger on my .223 was awesome, my 308 was crap. A timney trigger fixed that. The Tika (sako)is a really nice option, but you are limited with parts. My remington is definitely under a 1moa rifle, and possibly a .5moa. Good luck with your shopping!!!

I've owned several of both and still have one of each. They've all shot good. The remington 700 has a lot more options for it if you want to change things up. Tikkas pretty much are what they are and that's it. If the remington doesn't shoot, just lighten the trigger a bit and free float the barrel and bed the recoil lug. All things you can easily do yourself, and will guaranteed get you into MOA or better. In my experience anyways. Either you Wong regret your decision, good luck!

I get a kick out of all the guys saying buy Remington because of all the after market parts available so you can improve it ..Why buy something that needs improving ? Go Tikka and save the trouble ..
|
Another vote for the Tikka! I wouldn't trade my Tikka's in for any remington.

Tikka

A tikka will never be purchased with my money. There are way too many better alternatives. |
Every one should own at least one Remington 700 bdl.

I would go with the Tikka. Simply put, Remington is not what it used to be 20, even 10 years ago; on that hand, neither is Tikka, but Tikka's parent company is much better at QC. There have been way to many warranty issues with the 700s in comparison to the T3s. When Sako (the parent company of Tikka) makes a rifle, the barrels are all the same for their Sako premiums as their A7s as the T3. The difference in accuracy and price is in how the action is designed and bedded. I've heard nothing but good things about the T3s, and very mixed reviews on the 700s. And if you have an issue with the T3, Stoeger Canada is really good with warranty where as Gravel is a little harder to deal with.

Of those two choices...go Rem 700, IMHO, better handling and a better rifle. Good luck and let us know what u decide.

|
