Rem. 710

Anybody use one of these rifles? I have seen some on sale less than $400. with a cheap scope and was thinking of one in .243 for coyotes. Obviously they are not top of the heap, but price is good for a once in a while gun. I don't need any guessing,I can do that, would really like to hear from someone who has used one.
Thanks.

There is a very good reason why they are under $400 with a scope. Do some research on them on the internet. Coyote.........long distance does not = 710. You will be doing alot of guessing with a 710, everytime you pull the trigger.

if i were you why not take a look at a savage or a stevens package, about the same price and a better gun.i have a savage and while its no sako it sure works great!

Like honda450 said, do a google search. These rifles have a terrible reputation.... stay away from them IMHO. A Stevens or Savage, or even Rem. 700 SPS is a much better choice.

Ditto, run and hide.

i disgree 100%........

i took a 710 of a dude's hands in mint shape for a handful of handtied flies........ i thought, "yuck" what scope should i put on it, i figured with it being so stinkin ugly, that a empty toilet paper roll would do. But no, i just slapped on a Bushnell Trophy............

went to the range and was amazed. Fusion 130 grainers, and it was cloverleafing 3 shots at 100yards. couldnt believe it. eventually after alot of shooting, it opened up, i cleaned, the first shot had a flyer, then it was back to shooting sweet groups.

the earlier ones......have a bad rap on the bolt handle, as it takes alot of force to get the bolt to close. the later models are fine. The barrel is press fit so if some how some freak of nature you actually shoot out a barrel in a 710.... you cant really just replace it like a model 700.

they are freakin uglyyyyyyyyyyyyyy!!!!!!!! they feel like crap, ive had a better grip on my wifes tupperware lunch containers

i sold it for over $400  well over:lol:  i just couldnt own a rifle this ugly, just had to shoot something with it before i sold it. but like i said, i didnt pay cash for the rifle;)

serious though man......go buy the newer rem 770, its the 710's ugly sister, it is a little better on the eyes, bit better built, but the bolt is still a b!tch to close

-NDN- 12-21-2007 02:38 PM

but yes............... if you can afford it, buy the SPS, or even a weatherby vanguard. or if your just after a once and a while gun, buy the Stevens 200 hands down. they are shooters, and still ugly like the rem 710.

honda450 12-21-2007 03:22 PM

Well Remington said they made one good one, guess you had it BB. I bet they have hundreds in there warehouse.

EagleEye54 12-21-2007 03:39 PM

I agree....buy a Remington 700 SPS, put a decent scope on it and you are good to go. They use the same action as the Rems costing twice the price and I have never had a Rem 700 that didn't shoot well. SIR has a sale on them or grab one at Wholesale Sports. Remember, you get what you pay for.
