beaver mines area

I'm heading down to beaver mines lake for a little camping with the wife this week. I've never been to this area and have been teaching myself flyfishing in the central area this summer. with mediocre sucess. any advice for nice creeks or rivers to try out? also any nice picture taking spot for the wife? not looking for honey holes, just general advice.

thanks yall!

There is Barnaby/Southforks lakes if your up for a bit of a hike, lots of Golden trout... I prefer the rivers and from Beaver Mines you're close to the Castle, Crowsnest and Old Man systems. I like the Crowsnest personally...slow shallow stretches that are always fun for the walk and wade with the odd pool along the way.
I just came back from a weekend down there and never had a chance to fish. So tough to swallow since it's probably one of my favorite parts of the province.

Castle and Carbondale are one of my favorites in Alberta. The West and South Castle are really close to Beaver Mines and don't get as much pressure. The main Castle up to the falls area is still probably a zoo of people.

I think right now you would be best sticking with a simple hopper dropper setup in those systems.

thanks guys. we went to the carbondale and caught a few each. spent a brief time on the south castle and caught my first bull trout under a log jam. the wife got her hook caught on a log so i climbed up the jam to grab the hook for her. while i was on top of the logs i saw a handful of bulls under about 8fow. i jigged with her streamer straight down on the fish while she held the reel on the other side of the river. hooked a 20" bull and a she reeled it in for me. tons of fun.

Congrats on the bull! Carbondale is one of my favorite rivers too. I was also on the river this weekend and the water level was way down and all the fish were already clustered into the deep holes. The whites looked like they were getting ready to spawn as well as they are barely interested in anything I offered. I didn't get a chance to fish the Castle, was it similar there?
