Ufc/mma thread

Figured i would start a UFC/MMA thread.

Just announced that Derrick Lewis will be fighting Daniel Cormier at UFC 230 for the Heavyweight title. That’s Nov 3rd. Not a lot of time for Lewis to up that cardio conditioning....

Those boys are getting PAID i guarantee it.

Cormier should be able to grind out a win with his his wrestling.

Gotta feel like this last minute booking is just in order to not pay Diaz PPV points.

I agree. Cormier has good cardio. Lewis does not. Lewis has a punchers chance and thats about it...

When I broke my leg they gave me a cold pac, works like a hot shot only backwards. Maybe he could just drop one of those in, in between rounds.

Lol...

I know it's a joke but I will watch just to relive the good ole days...

Liddell, Couture, BJ Penn, GSP, Anderson,

They were both awesome fighters in their prime.

Tito's ground n pound was a game changer for sport.

All we need is Shamrock and Gracie to sign on as well...

Pretty sure they’re just tying to save the card, they announced this fight a couple hours before announcing that Poirier was injured and out vs Diaz

Yeah that sucks. I wasn’t going to get the card but was interested in the outcome of that fight for sure.

If GSP would fight for a "super fight" or "legacy" fight against Khabib he should do it at a catch weight above 155 for 2 reasons ....

- It's my opinion GSP would have a tough weight cut to 155 and likely not be the best GSP which would potentially diminish the gravity of such a fight.

- It wouldn't be fair for GSP to potentially win the fight and "claim the belt" if he has no intention of staying an active fighter - and GSP isn't looking to be an active fighter.

Catch weight at, or somewhere around 170lns is the way I'd like to see this go down.

And at his last fight, to be quite honest, I thought he was so out of shape, and loosing the fight on the cards when BOOM he finally clocks the guy and sits him down to win .......... again.

Lewis's time will be up if Cormier get a hold of him on the fence and, even worse, if he gets on top of him.

I am not impressed with Lewis at all.

Sure he has bombs in his fists, but a puncher's chance is what he always has, and I'd say he should cash in his lottery ticket. His time is up.

I agree with this. GSP is in it for the super fights. I dont think its a money thing i think he just has an interest in having a variety of fights. His name alone brings the money.

Yes its a shame that Lewis is #2. Doesnt speak much for the talent pool at heavyweight. He's a boat anchor. Granted a funny boat anchor but still a boat anchor...

Just announced that Luke Rockhold is injured and has pulled out of his UFC 230 rematch with Chris Weidman.

Im tellin ya, before USADA and when gear was legal there wasnt this many injuries. The gear kept these athletes going in terms of less injuiries, quicker recoup times and more stamina. Oh well.....

I think there are many good doctors out there, who are able to employ blocker drugs (or show guys how/when to go on cycles) so that athletes can pass the pee test - so I'm guessing many guys are still juicing, they might just have a good doctor on their team.

There are a few guys I seriously question ...... despite the fact they have not been "caught".

The other "new" development, as I understand it, that some drugs are designed to have low suspension (short residual) so it clears your system in a matter of a few weeks to a month. So guys train hard, push the juice, make the gains in strength, size, speed, whatever then come off training and get on to an event list (which automatically puts you on the USADA "to be tested" list, and they "schedule" a pre fight test..... yeah ..... schedule it ..... so if they schedule it too soon after your cycle and you are going to pee hot - you deek your test with a "no show" and stay home that day.

Guys have been beating this system for a long time. When you do successfully deek a test the USADA have to have a hearing and re-schedule a session to "order" you to submit a sample. This takes weeks or even months. The guy needs to fill out a "failure to appear disclosure" form to get the "no show" removed from his file.

You can have 2 no shows in 18 months !!!!! You will not get a suspension until you have deeked 3 in a row within 18 months.

Now, because they can do "random testing AT the event post and pre - you just have to time your cycles and understand your residuals and you are good to go.

Again, I'm no expert, just passing along thoughts of my own based on what I have heard or read about.

Most of this info is on the intranet and it's the fighters who talk about it.

Based on that, I'd suggest most of the fighters are juiced. You simply can't build that muscle mass and be that big otherwise. Anyone who has juiced can tell you how MASSIVE these gains can be in a period of only a few months.

A juicer at work, and he talks about it, went from nicely defined and in shape to a monster in 3-4 months. His bench went 250 lbs to over 400 lbs and he was squatting a Filipino family and a station wagon when training.

Lewis is like a Tim Sylvia, he sure avoided most of the gate keepers in the division to get all the way to #2, no Stipe, no junior, no werdun, no Cain, no Carlin no brockets, one of the only big names he actually fought tkod him (mark hunt) he ain’t got the pedigree Cormier does, not even close, he’s got some real bad habits Cormier will exploit the heck out of, Cormier will grind him like coffee, he is a way more intelligent fighter, I think Lewis would have a better chance at winning the powerball than winnin against Cormier.
GSP is one of the greatest the sport has ever seen, he’d beat big mouth magregor, but kabib is in his own universe, kabib would learn him, learn him, reeeaaallll good!

Yes Lewis has shimmied up through the rankings in a very watered down division. I can’t see Cain ever coming back and Shane Carwin retired many years ago before Lewis was even in MMA...

In defense of lewis he didnt really have an opportunity to fight stipe as he was the champ.

Cain, Carwin and brock arent even active fighters.

Im in no way saying he beats cormier...more so saying HW in the UFC and mma in general, is the worst division going. this is the best they could come up with...a light heavyweight fighting a hw with no stamina...on a 3 week training camp.

Cormier is a natural heavyweight. In his day to day life he walks around over 230lbs. He was a monster in Strikeforce.
Wins over Frank Mir, Roy Nelson, Josh Barnett and Antonio Silva....

I do agree with you though. The UFC heavyweight div. sucks now.
