Handy, thanks!

I have a valid fire permit for a small burn but I've decided against it, dry conditions and the high winds we're having are a recipe for disaster.

They're not providing permits in Parkland county, full ban. They've been in place all spring and I'm good with it.

Looks like a full fire ban in Athabasca County. April 22 2024.

We have had two fires in the last three days, one within town from an ATV, in an area within town limits, and another fire that threatened an evacuation of of one of our outlying subdivisions , man made as well.
Our river hasn't even broke up yet and human caused fires are already starting !:angry3:

Starland County has a burn ban on, which I thought seemed odd, allows campfires still, I believe.

Wonder how long it will take until the government bans the use of ATV's in the backcountry?

During a extremely dry spring with limited snow last winter we should have total fire ban in All of May until green grass and leaves, or heavy rains.

While I'm not disagreeing completely, what would you suggest we do about the idiots running around with jerry cans and matches?
Seems as though most fires are being started by these wastes of oxygen.

I'd gorilla tape them to a tree in the path of the fire. May even spread a little of their gasoline on them.

Arsonists are as low a form of life as thieves.

Funny part about dry green grass, underneath is the thatch from last year!

Discovered how well a fire moves through the dead dry thatch under the green grass while clearing some brush. Could not understand where the smoke was coming from until I went over and kicked the grass and saw the flame moving underneath. Then I was doing alot of kicking and stomping and running for water.

A week of rain will solve the problem, as long as it gets here in a hurry!

Just got our first one here.

Part of town was put on 30-minute evac notice. Sucks.

Things aren’t looking good out there for this year.

Not sure why it says “part” because I meant to say “south”.

Anyway. Heard they were going to (or did) evacuate the local correction facility to Slave Lake and Edmonton. Hospital was going to be evacuated as well.

BUT, BUT, I thought the 23% raise in taxes would solve the problem? Silly me guess it needs to go up more.

Play safe out there, grass here is tinder dry as well.

fishnguy 04-23-2024 10:26 PM

227 inmates were evacuated to Slave and Edmonton (50/50, from my understanding). Took 1.5 hours to pack them up.

While I don’t mind the jail being emptied and the inhabitants sent away from here (as opposed to dropping them off by the liquor store where they have to figure out how to get hell out of here back to wherever they came from)…

Jokes aside, not a great start to the season.

And you might get to sand bag around your hospital again depending on which river breaks first!

Ahhh McMurray life……
