What is your 'go-to' breakfast?

Not being a breakfast guy for the most part of half a century, the odd time I get a craving in the morning.
The last few weeks after finding out Wal-mart has little trays of 4 mini corn bread for $2, I cut 2 in half in half and butter the cut side, then fry them just to nice and brown. Strawberry jam of course. Great way to start the day.
It's like complicated toast but more flavor.

bobtodrick 01-16-2021 10:03 AM

Mon-Fri (work days) usually just a muffin or bagel and coffee.
Weekends usually make bacon, eggs, hash browns or French toast for the family.

riden 01-16-2021 10:04 AM

I've hardly started a day in the last decade without eggs and coffee.

Madocmike 01-16-2021 10:05 AM

I'm old school. Hunting day breakfast is similar to my everyday breakfast, OJ, Tea. 2 pieces of toast w/ peanut butter and a bowl of oatmeal. Sticks to the ribs longer for me. Take in a backpack my apple, banana and maybe a Cliff protein bar along with a bottle of water and I'm good for the better part of the day.

I am a traditionalist. 2 eggs over easy or poached soft, 2 slices of rye bread, 2 strips of bacon or 3 sausages, home made hash browns cubed and pan fried, black coffee and OJ. Have this about once a week.

Buckhead 01-16-2021 10:13 AM

Pretty much the same every day.
Coffee, 1 banana, 1 egg and some lean sausage (beef, deer) whatever I have in the freezer, 1 slice of dry whole wheat toast (no butter or marg) with a bit of strawberry jam.

JULIUS 01-16-2021 10:17 AM

My favorite is 2 eggs sunny side up with a half pound elk sausage patty and 2 cups of coffee. Have to limit this as my waist line keeps telling me unless it is hunting season it is too much for breakfast.

I have been eating a lot of eggs over the last year, am damn near ready to show Mr. Pepin my traditional french omelette, and my poached eggs look like 'perfectly cooked testicles', if you ask my wife.

But I get tired of eggs, they were a way to cut back on bread for lunch.

My Dad cooked 2 things I can remember, poached eggs and pb&j toast.

I have had toast for lunch countless thousand times, seems to be a way to hang onto Dad.

As for coffee, I think I had a cup 40 years ago, when enough of the cookies I was dunking in it fell in and I wanted them out. Just not a coffee guy.

Thanks for the replies guys, keep them coming please.

When I want something for breakfast, which is rare, I "go to" McDonald's for an egg or sausage McMuffin. Has all the food groups a man requires and packed full of vitamins which I think come from the authentic shredded gouda cheese on both.

Most of the time I just have a cowboy breakfast...a whiz and a look around.

graybeard 01-16-2021 10:22 AM

A few years back I was a traditional breakfast eater; bacon, eggs the whole deal.

An annual medical which included a cholesterol test, change all that.....now it is a low to no fat home-made muffin or a bowel of oatmeal....

Cholesterol is hereditary .... like Andy stated on Shawshank Redemption: "get on with livin or get on with dyin".........

I love when we make cornbread and then have enough left over for the next couple days. I usually put it in the toaster oven and crisp up the edges a bit and then just butter.

There was a period where I had nothing but two poached eggs soft on toast for probably 3 years... Every day... Never got bored with it. I still love it to this day but really I am not a big breakfast eater at all anymore. I tend to just have coffee and then have lunch as a first meal other than occasions.

Christmas morning we have a tradition of something my mom called Christmas Morning Wife Saver. My wife makes it now and our adult kids always want it too. Soooo good that we sometimes make it randomly even for dinner! haha! A breakfast casserole kind of thing with lots of eggs, cheese, ham with onions and spices all topped with cornflakes.

Bowl of bran in milk for me. Alternatively, oatmeal (especially when hunting or camping).

Lately I’ve been adding an egg a few times a week, fried or boiled.

If I’m eating with the kids, I love to have PB&J too.

Bacon and eggs for special occasions, etc. IncrediGirl makes really good egg muffins as well.

hayseed 01-16-2021 10:31 AM

My go to breaky is two poached eggs, no toast, no bacon, just eggs,
Love eggs, and actually they are my staple for supper alot as well.

Get crackin.. :)

RickF 01-16-2021 10:31 AM

Oatmeal, every day. Have for years.

Large flake oatmeal goes into the slow cooker when I go to bed, it’s hot and ready for me when I get up the next morning.

sns2 01-16-2021 10:33 AM

Black coffee. Two cups.

KGB 01-16-2021 10:35 AM

I alternate, eggs with a toasted rye bread with cheese or salami, home made cottage cheese( wife makes it out of the buttermilk) with a farmers sour cream and a bit of jam, crapes filled with meat. All this is flushed down with a cup of coffee. Cant go without a breakfast.

During week usually something quick like maby just a toasted beagle. On weekends i like fried eggs toasted hash-brown patties toast and bacon or sausage. But my absolute favourite is eggs bennidict when the wife decides i deserve it.

fishpro 01-16-2021 10:40 AM

I start every day with a smoothie - 1-2 bananas, frozen berries, whey powder, and peanut butter.

Careful, PETA will lose their freaking minds if that gets out.

Cinnamon and raisin bagel with herb and garlic or cereal.

I don’t eat breakfast a lot of the time (or lunch!) when I’m working. Not healthy I know but just a habit. Sure makes supper taste good when it the first thing you’ve ate.

Days off when the kids are home I try to make bacon and eggs or French toast.
Today I made the egg toast thing where you cut the hole in the bread and put an egg in there. (Not sure what it’s called)

I like eggs now but used to have a hard time eating them. We used to have laying hens when I was young. Eggs for breakfast, egg salad sandwich for lunch, hard boiled or deviled eggs for snack and sometimes “breakfast for supper”. Uggg.

Trochu 01-16-2021 10:52 AM

Well, for the last six months it's been four eggs and a slurpee.

Before that it was just the slurpee.

I had to reread that a couple times to catch on... Then I spit my coffee everywhere... Thanks for that.

I’ll try anything once.

Lol, and thats why you pre-view your replies.

RickF 01-16-2021 11:04 AM

Sorry Glenn, couldn’t resist!

Bowl of cereal, OJ, and a multi vitamin. Depending on how things feel, maybe an Advil. Cereals are low sugar multi grain. Brunch is a fruit slurpee. Two raw eggs, mango, pineapple, banana, whey powder. Supper is hit and miss.

I knew that was popular in China, but never heard of it here.

Like the guy eating 'chicken' at a street market there. Said it was the best he ever had. Tried talking to the guy cooking, said good chicken.

Cook laughed, shook his head and said 'meow meow'.

Not sure where the 'chicken ended up' lol

found it

For years did a smoothie and 2 boiled eggs.
Now my wife gets up with me and cooks 2 eggs and usually a bowl of yogurt with nuts or frozen fruit on top

Got to eat in the morning, since my leukemia diagnosis 6 years ago my diet has changed a lot, I have to take my pills and can't take them on an empty stomach, usual B'fast is a sliced banana and a sliced apple, 1 piece 12 grains toast, 1 glass pure tomato juice, green tea with honey and lemon during the week.

Sunday's before covid I used to do brunch and have the kids / grandkids and sissy over, it was the full deal, bacon or ham, waffles or French toast, hash browns and fruit salad but that's gone now for a while, but I still treat myself and the good wife on Sunday's, bacon and eggs, hash browns, toast and coffee with baily's, man I love Sunday's :) and that's tomorrow :sHa_shakeshout:
