Sad to see the park degraded in a short time. Can't imagine the public lands and parks close to cities and towns in the United States. I wonder how many are squatters are living on public lands in the States? Must be a couple million Mick Dodge's running around.

If a person goes to some of our North Saskatchewan river valley ravines, that are on private land, they are littered with garbage and "campsites" too. There are even people dragging out building supplies to make camps/shacks. Cutting trees too.

This is why we need to support government initiatives regarding managing our lands. If Alberta hadn't made laws regarding squatters building on our crown land back a few decades ago today our lands wouldn't be worth making into parks and wildland areas.

Today with 4 million people in Alberta any decisions and laws regarding our land management should be all about managing the people, not so much the land. Nature will take care of itself if left alone. These new foothill parks and future proposals are something a government doesn't necessarily have to engage public discussion to decide. Government is here to govern and make decisions in the public interest. Objective and unemotional decisions based in logical understanding of the issues at hand. (Whew. Thanks for letting me rant a little bit.)
