Help! 4-10 emergency!

My wife was recently gifted her grandfather's 12 gauge. He is 90 now and only wants to hunt with his 4-10. None of us realised that there is a severe shortage of ammunition. This might be his last year of hunting sure to his age and we can't find any ammunition for him.

To make matters more complicated, he is in Thunderbay. If I can find some shells here I will write happily pay the postage to mail them to him.

Does anyone have a box or 2 in the basement or know of anywhere in Alberta that might have some.

Thanks,

Max

You can't legally mail ammunition, but if you give a location, someone near you may have some to spare.

Ooooh, I did not know that! I am in Calgary, but the grandfather is in Thunderbay

Just looked it up. You cannot send ammunition through Canada Post, but you can use Purolator, etc

Find the ammo through an online retailer. Buy online and ship it to him.

The problem is that I can't find it. Do you know of any online retailers that have stock?

He's had 90 years to stock up.

I noticed that Cabela's had some on their website this morning, but by this afternoon it must have sold out because it's no longer there. There does seem to be more and more of it coming into Canada recently, but it sure gets sold fast.

Thanks for the heads up. I will keep an eye out and try to be quick

Just use ammo bin dot ca, and search by cartridge/caliber.

Found these listed.

Get him some shorty 1 1/4 “ 12 ga shells and give him back his shotgun , a lot easier than finding a 410 shell

huntinstuff 10-15-2023 08:41 PM

I have dozens of original boxes of Imperial and Canuck .410 shells

Grandpa would have been in his 20's or 30's when these were sold.

But, they're expensive.

Elwood Epps in Orillia, ON has some select cartridges in stock.

I bought a pile of .338 Federal ammo from The Gun Dealer, because they had it. They are VG to deal with. If they have it and you want it buy it. Ammo isn't going to get cheaper or easier to find.

Thanks for the review. I just ordered some from them, they are going to ship it directly to him.

Obviously the shipping cost an arm and a leg, but you can't put a price on grandpa's happiness.

Thanks everyone for the input

What does your grandfather want to hunt

Elk is an expert and Cat is an expert reloader, so if you know what grand dad will be hunting, say up land like I do, I reload #4 lead in empty hulls that I got from friends on this site.

If it is water fowl, I don't recommend the 410 but if that what he is going to use, you will probably have to reload to get #2 stell in the hulls.

I hope that this is helpful. I'm 79 and still have a 12 ga. for waterfowl which I haven't hunted for a couple of years, and the 410 for upland, and except for dog trials haven't been out for them either.

That's the beauty of this group - lotsa folks willing to lend a hand!

Hope your grandpa has a great time with his .410!
