I was there on Thursday too bad it didn't happen that day. Caught a few fish.

Nature at it's finest. Reminds me of the photos you see from Africa with predators taking down an ungulate next to the safari jeep. The guy got some nice shots.

Really cool stuff! Thanks for posting!

Very cool, must be lean times for the wolf to chase it and swim with it attempting to take it down in the middle of the lake but then again you take your meals where they present themselves...

Thanks for sharing, reminds me of the Moose Walker from years ago.

He's still alive and active as he out smarts his pray.

This is why elk like to stay near rivers, they use deep water to escape from wolves.

Is it just my eyes or does the buck possibly have a chunk of fur on its antlers?

Looks to be red(maybe blood) on his antlers too. I don't know

All that this story needed was Michael Phelps
It was more interesting than him racing the shark

Yes that's blood. Blood feeds the velvet. It's the bucks blood.

Just the buck shedding his velvet. Excellent pictures

Just a friendly game of tag! :)

I'm betting when the velvet comes off the male ungulates, that they become more susceptible to be targeted for predation due to all the blood scent. Never occurred to me before. Wonder if there is any scientific back up to prove it.

Made me chuckle a little ...... image if the wolf was out in the middle of the lake and did kill the buck .......... the wolf would probably be thinking "oh $#!t - now what .... I gotta drag and swim with this thing all the way back to shore !!!!"
