What's the coolest thing you have won?

Reading about threeforthree's compound bow win, it got me thinking that a fun thread would be one posting what sorts of things we have all won in raffles, draws, lotteries etc! Nothing like the windfall of something cool from a win!

For me it was fairly recently. Summer before last I bought some raffle tickets last minute in support of a friend who runs an annual fund raiser called "Bark With Bam" where money is raised in support of the Calgary Humane Society and the Yamnuska Wolfdog Sanctuary. I won first prize which was an awesome experience of return flights for two to Vancouver, hotel in the Lonsdale Quay and dinner reservations, and the coolest part, a 3 hour trip 300 feet below the ocean in a research submarine with a company called Aquatica Submarines!

It was an unreal experience! I have always been fascinated with underwater exploration but because of an ear issue I cannot dive and experiencing it in person was something I never thought would happen actually happen. When I won this trip it was the thrill of a lifetime for me! They even let me pilot the sub for a while which was super rad! The best bit I think was when we went right to the bottom of the ocean and turn off the sub completely. No lights, sounds, power or anything. It went pitch black for a couple second then all of a sudden a world of bio-luminescent lifeforms started popping up everywhere! Sooo amazing!

Anyways... What cool stuff have you all won?

$500 when I was doing security work in Lloydminster. I was on a break sitting watching everyone scramble around looking for a hidden card. The clues were something like the grain elevators, parkade, tv tower and from where I was sitting I saw all 3. Reached down and there it was on the seat beside me.

A weekend trip to the Olympics in Vancouver from Entering a contest on some yogurt I bought was definitely the best experience I have ever won.

I won a Argo in 1994 at the Faro yukon 25th reunion.
I Bought the ticket and then we had to leave the next day, got home, couple days later got called said we had won the Argo. Worth just under 10 grand at the time.
Had to take 3days off work drove up and picked up Argo and came back home.
My wife grew up in faro , her dad worked at the mine till it closed down.
Used the Argo to haul out quite a few moose on hunting trips, still have but haven't used it much lately.
Best thing I ever won so far--been hoping on the lotto max but that's just been a donation so far Lol
Also donate regularly to Stars

Won a hunting trip to Uruguay at a Ducks Unlimited dinner once!

It was awesome :D

JohninAB 01-18-2018 01:02 PM

At the Whitecourt Ducks Unlimited supper, a few of us from the Whitecourt Fire Department were there helping with the auctions. I bought a ticket on a 1 of 50 Ducks Unlimited muzzleloader in 50 cal. Won it.

Also as a member of the Whitecourt Fire Department I won a 4 day, trip for 2 to Las Vegas thru a draw put on by a local hotel. The draw was at the hotel and you had to be in attendance to win as you were shuttled to the airport as soon as the draw was over. I was the only one on the department who could go. Two other names were drawn before the fire department was pulled but they were not in attendance.

Yup! I had a co-worker once who had a set of telephones set up with the phone numbers of radio stations on speed dial at his work station. He won quite often, but his biggest score was when he won $1 million. Still came to work after that - smart guy.

Won a rifle in a draw once. Thinking on it, that’s the only draw I’ve ever won.

GSPointer 01-18-2018 02:21 PM

In elementary school I won a pair of headphones and an FM radio at a year end hockey banquet. Door prize, definetly not mvp, lol.
I still remember being completely blown away when I put them on at home and heard music in stereo and fm radio for the 1st time ever.
Actually, I don’t think I’ve won a thing since!

Man, I feel old after telling this story.

lmtada 01-18-2018 02:36 PM

Coolest, thing I won? Won a trip to Honolulu as a 19 year old while at a engineering dance in college. Draw was at midnight (we were all ****ed up), at 8:00 am we were on our first class seats (still hammered) to Honolulu. We had no money, they gave us $1000.00 spending money, hotel rooms downtown Honolulu. Met a couple good looking women from New York (that’s another storey).
Won some $$$ also......
