Looks like Big Lake outside St Albert is covered, Sauer and Chicakoo are covered

swampy45 11-06-2019 08:55 AM

Chickakoo and Sauer are both 2-3” of ice with a few soft spots as of yesterday. Going to drive around to a few lakes today, will report back. -19*C at 7am this morning here, I can feel the ice calling!

trophybook 11-06-2019 09:21 AM

Pigeon lake is icing over nicely on the west side

swampy45 11-06-2019 01:26 PM

Just drove past Jackfish and Mink Lake, they are both freshly iced over. Didn’t go check the thickness as the ice cover is new. Coming along nicely though!

-30 this morning chain lake south of Longview looks frozen hard. Couple days and I will go hand auger a couple holes and see how it is.

TROLLER 11-07-2019 09:18 AM

Where are you that it is -30? Good to hear that Chain is icing over.

It was as low as -26 yesterday morning south of Lethbridge.

Glad to hear things are freezing up down south! Sounds like Newell is entirely ice covered bow. Been a slow process around Edmonton. I think this is the week the bigger lakes ice over up here as well.

Lac St Anne is completely covered, ice is about 2.5" thick off the dock in town

swampy45 11-07-2019 01:14 PM

Well that’s good to hear! Might have to head that way!

The main lake at Newell is still open, but there were actually people ice fishing at the mouth of Rainier Bay this morning... Late last week Greenwald Bay only had an inch at most of ice over it.

I was out in 308 hunting all the valley Bottoms ready -25 on my truck. I assume it was -30 with the wind on the lake

Any news on lakes in Hinton/Edson area? Thanks!

KJPFISH 11-08-2019 07:06 PM

Saw someone ice fishing about 200 yds out on Langdon Reservoir (east of Calgary) this morning as I drove by - gutsy.

I can not figure out, for the life of me, how to access that water body...I've driven by it a couple times and don't see any kind of a boat launch or other access point. I don't wanna start a whole "thing" on here, but if someone was kind enough and wanted to PM me how you get on there (I'm full CnR fishing - no keepers!) I'd be eternally grateful!

It has been pretty warm in Jasper. Haven’t seen any of the lakes outside of the park, but Talbot was open as of this past Monday.

Hopefully we dont get the heaps of snow they are projecting to insulate the thin layer of ice we do have. Bad start for the ice if it goes like that.

Everyone be safe!!!

Heavy snow early on in the season has little impact as the thin layer of ice cannot support any weight and thus the snow just sinks into the water. Once there is 6" or more of ice thickness heavy snow then becomes a problem. The big lakes up north didn't even have shoreline ice as of last weekend. Not too concerned just yet.

I echo your thoughts, everyone be safe!

Last Sunday the whole north end of PCR was frozen from the bridge north
(minus a little pocket) the whole south end was open....

There is no boat launch and if you drove by you had to have seen the turn off and a large parking area. Nice for a day outing but like Chestemere all smalls very hard to catch a legal.

FlyTheory 11-11-2019 04:05 PM

Wild horse (lower) has 4-5” of ice. Chip lake is fully covered.

Hopefully not, stay safe out there.
