Windy Walleye Fishing with the Kids

Walleye fishing in Alberta has become somewhat like the perch fishing days of old. There are so many of them with the restrictive regulations and mandatory catch and release that they are eating themselves out of house and home. What used to be a challenging fishery is now a fish after fish fishery. The kids stay entertained easily while fishing for the plentiful and aggressive species. As much as the kids like it I still think we need to have a change in the fishery. Far too many of an apex predator collapse a fishery while fisheries biologists somehow think the walleye populations are at risk. The only thing they're at risk of is starving to death when they should be managed sustainably.

Great video Brandon and I don't think I have ever seen a little girl more excited to hold an ugly fish!

It is amazing how the walleye have exploded in so many Alberta lakes.

Our home lake is Gull Lake.

Last year we would catch a few walleye while pike fishing.

This year....we couldn't keep the walleye off the hook, and that is ANY hook.

Including flies on the fly road when going for surface whitefish.

I am no fish biologist but the current management strategy does not make sense to me.

While we had much fun catching and releasing the walleye, we do miss the big pike, perch and whitefish.

Keep up the great videos...I enjoy them.

Thanks, yeah she loves holding the fish and letting them go. Yeah I'm not sure how long it's going to take the government to realize they've ruined things.

Thanks for watching.

They are biting so good in these stocked walleye lakes because all that's left in there for them to eat is frozen minnows and dew worms. Sad state of affairs that's about to bottom out. The pike are gone pretty much but you can still whunk 3 big hens if they were there...it's a joke.
