Best concert from the 80's you've been to?
 

I truly feel like I missed the best two decades of music, the 70's and 80's. I'm in my early 30's, I was too young to know who Motley Crue, Van Halen, GnR, Maiden, Journey, U2 ( then, NOT now.... ) was, and the list goes on.

By the time I got into music, Nirvana was HUGE, then it all went sideways with N'Sync, Backstreet Boys, My Chemical Romance, 30 Seconds to Mars, The White Stripes........

Just wondering, those of you who enjoyed the arena rock and stadium metal tours, which ones were your favorite? Watching YouTube vids, it looks like some of those bands put on a hell of a show!

There were actually some good songs in the 80's, it's too bad that in a lot of cases they used the worst possible instruments to perform them

Right, the likes of Moog Synthethizers. Remember those speakers that had the spinning thingamajig. Many bands in the 70's used them, I can't remember the name of them, there was one on Pawn Stars not that long ago. Awesome sound out of those puppies. You are right though, a few good Rock and Roll bands in the 80's. I like Streetheart, Fleetwood Mac, Stevie Ray Vaughn.

edit: I forgot Supertramp's Breakfast in America. Great album, from the early 80's IIRC.

Does going to KISS this summer qualify as going to a concert in the 80's?

Led Zeppelin, Joe Cocker, the Eagles....thank the good Lord that they lived on in my album collection thru that decade.

I had one of the first car mounted alpine cd players in alberta ($1200), and $4000 worth of alpine crammed into z28. just looked over my cd collection from the 80's. the police, twisted sister, ratt, billy idol, ozzy, alabama, quiet riot,
My dad was right again ....That was terrible music.
The only thing i want out from that era is my knees, elbows and lower back that never seemed to hurt

That ain't so bad Roger. I've had two or three 8 track tape players in a Plymouth Fury II with a 383, one in an '67 Olds Starfire, and one in a Delta '88. Had Cassette player stuck in the glove box of a '58 VW. Oh, boy those were the days, had good knees and hips back then too. Rocked to CCR. :)

I wasn't old enough in the 80's either to see any of the amazing bands live either.

But I will say some major good music has been released in the last twenty years. Talent hasn't gone down, its that music has become so commercialized. You only hear in the mainstream what the record companies want you to hear.

Lots to hear on ITunes and via MP3 released in the last decade or two... it just doesn't generate enough revenue or following for these bands to justify massive live shows as in the days of old.

I would have liked to been in Moscow for Mosters of Rock 1991.

Keep in mind the best album of all time - Division Bell - was released in 1994!

Some people must have been doing some travelling in the 1980 to see Led Zep and the Eagles, considering they both disbanded that year. Would have loved to see Led Zep.

I was thinking of all the shows Iv seen since going to concerts, and going over some of the stubs I kept, and now I finally realize wear ear protection, my ears ring constantly, I figured I was ok at the eagles Wednesday night, and still today, it's even more annoying last 2 days...AGAIN WEAR PROTECTION....

all in the 80's at the coliseum in Edmonton,
Styx, Iron Maiden, Twisted Sister, Alice Cooper Several times, and lots of bar bands like Nick Danger for example at places like The Rex, CI south, Kingsway or the Beverly Crest. Rock City downtown was always a favorite, but no live bands there.

I didn't make it to many concerts in the '80's, but one that was pretty fun was where they filled the entire 'Dome with giveaway tickets from a radio station and the act was the Beach Boys (oddly enough I can't recall who opened). I think lots of the good memories of that night were afterwards as well.

I remember going to a Harlequin concert and getting to go backstage as my Dad is buddies with the drummer, but I was 13 and not really interested for whatever reason, so I took my first ever LRT ride home by myself early that night, it was 1983.

My Dads band played some Calgary bars in the late '70's and they usually jammed at our house, so loud music didn't seem anything extra special to me when I was young. Boring parent stuff, lol.

I worked security for the show and they asked me to work on the stage crew afterwards. Up till that point it was the longest day ever, but being from a small town on the East Coast it was pretty damn cool.
