The tikka 3tx,is without a doubt, a hard hitting long distance hunting rifle.Also holds its own on the target range.Low recoil,you can shoot it all day.This fairly rapid fire 10 shot group at 100m was the 1st shots since last fall.The 22-250 used all winter ,on yotes--The 6.5 hard on fur.Next trip will move out to 200m-300m.The trigger crisp---ideal.At 300 plus its a fun gong ringer.The bullet used Hornadys 147 ELD match.The light hunting model in this caliber,an idea beginners rifle.

My most recent rifle purchase was a new T3X varmint in 204 Ruger, but I've only had 1 opportunity to get it out. Great shooter, crisp trigger...but I found it too heavy for my liking. (even dialled out) I put a YoDave trigger spring in place of the factory one, and wow....now she's good! ($15 shipped)

Needs some load development time...but factory ammo was sub MOA, so I haven't exactly rushed into it. lol

147ELD for projectile. I'm guessing 6.5CM.

I refuse to go back to ikea specifically because of the maze they make you walk through to make sure you see every Swedish piece of junk you can bring home and figure out how to assemble.

I met a hutterite farmer east in the Mountainview area,who shot a large number of yotes with the 204--I never knew his name I just called him the 204 man.Many shots at extreme long range,with very little fur damage.

The nuances of metaphoric prose is easily misconstrued it seems.

Anyway let us know how cold bore single shot repeatability in your rifle fairs at extended ranges.

I know I’ve got quite a few Savage and Remington rigs that can do it, and my long ago sold T3 in 7-08 was a true top performer.(still kicking my arse over that sale)

That’s some mighty fine shooting Sir. Not many people or rigs can pile 10 into a target like that.

I’ve seen the results from a handful of 6.5CM Tikkas now, and it’s crazy how well they shoot. I’ve also been shooting the 147ELD in my LH version. A very fun combo!

Oh yes haveing lots of fun,I finally found a rifle thats hits were I am pointing--Did I show you the picture of the whitetail buck that dropped at 270m,like a rag doll,never moved--The 143gr ELDX hit him like a freight train.

So is this a post about the t3x or 6.5 creedmoor or the 147 eldm’s or the 143 eldx?

Yes indeed,There is a downside, very heavy for an all day carry rifle.Ok for ground blind hunting--cut blocks --oil lines etc.Of course I always use shooting sticks.

Yes indeed,still a few days to 17th.will take my shooting table out,Go with a no wind morning-see what she got.Its all part of the fun.

A few years ago a gentleman, target shooter let me shoot his custom rifle,with a top of the line scope.At 400m I hit the small gong two out three times.he has hit the gong at 1000m.I took his advice and here we are today.

What velocity are you getting with the 147’s?
What’s your es and sd’s?

I haven’t shot a T3x, but here is a 10-shot 100yd group from my lowly factory T3 in 30.06.

This group with out of the box Hornady 147gr ELDmatch .velocity listed at2695 fps. I reload hunting bullets with the 143 gr Eldx 2600 fps.

What advise did you take?

I’ve found some big es from the hornady factory ammo

I can answer with my load:

143gr ELDX
210M primer
41.0gr H4350
COAL 2.830”

Produces a zippy 2780fps in a KSA 24” inch tube. This slippery load holds 1800fps at 820 yards.

5-shot group results:
ES: 25
SD: 9.6
After multiple 5- shot groups off bench rest, I conclude that accuracy is from 0.5-0.9MOA.

129 Long Range Accubond over Varget produced my lowest ES/SD at 9/3.6, but group size was in the 1.5MOA range. Velocity was 2864fps.

I went for accuracy and velocity over statistics. If I ever shot at extreme long range, I would be more focused on a load with both great accuracy, velocity and low SD/ES.

If you want speed, shoot the LRAccubond over RL17. I got them up to 3061fps! (Disclaimer: start low and work your way up...)
