A buddy of mine found this gadget on a fly fisher's necklace. So far no one has been able identify it. Any thoughts?

I use a Ketchum hook release like that all the time. Slide your taut tippet through the slotted side, and then run it down into the trouts mouth - over the fly - and against the bend in the hook. You then gently push the hook slightly deeper into the trouts throat to dislodge the hook point. Keep the tippet taut, and back it out.

Works with most thin-bodied flys. Not so well with big bodied nymphs or boobies. Then you need to resort to a cut-off, notched toothbrush handle !

I picked one up at a fly shop in Calgary a couple of years ago and use it almost exclusively. I was fishing this summer and one of the other fisherman asked me what I was using to release the fish because I rarely need to even touch them with this thing.

Once you get the hang of it, it works really well and is easy on your flies too.
