From the dam downstream are browns not rainbows, and the Upper Red Deer from Sundre to Glennifer Lake are some browns but mostly brookies and some bulls, I live right off this part of the river and have yet to see a rainbow.

NO !! You read it on the internet...there are Rainbows in the Red Deer River...It has to be true then ..:)

Stump thumper 05-28-2011 02:27 PM

what's a good stretch of the river to fish close to red deer? i'm thinking of starting at the QE2 tomorrow

latenite 05-28-2011 08:07 PM

there used to be. my brother caught a brown down by the bridge at river bend golf course. mind you that was over ten years ago. it was a sweet fish, prolly 5+ lbs.

Outcast 1100 05-28-2011 08:43 PM

i wouldnt waste my time doing any fishing on the red deer right now. its extremely fast moving and very turbid. there are browns in the red deer river.

WillyOneStyle 05-28-2011 10:21 PM

crazy thread.....
Rainbow is not exactly what comes to mind when I think of my home town river. I have, however, hooked into a couple immediately below the dam.

Give her a month or so and the Red Deer should be coming into her prime.

gui 05-28-2011 10:29 PM

ya ive had great luck the last 2 days in the rdv maybe ill go back tom. all goldeyes though

WillyOneStyle 05-29-2011 12:50 AM

nothing wrong with Goldeye, I love catching them. A friend of mine smokes them and they are pretty good that way.

There are monster Browns in the Red Deer, that much has been proven to me, I've never caught them though. The river supports a whole bunch of different sport fish.

I'm fishing the Grande Prairie region this year (working here), but I look forward to goldeye 'till dark in 2012.

x2

The river has come up significantly the last couple of days and is very turbid and murky. I was out at Glennifer a couple days ago and the lake was pretty low so i can only assume they are still making room for the runoff.

i caught a brown the other day down there ive also caught rainbow in there just down from gleniffer dam little hike but always catch fish lots of walleye the odd brown and few rainbows

I can vouch for you on this one. Just when you think you've caught a really decent Brown.. it turns out be a monster Walleye or Jack

TheFishHunter 05-30-2011 12:14 AM

Browns?

What are you guys using in the Red Deer River? I was thinking of heading out to test it by Sundre.

Unknown303 06-02-2011 04:08 AM

The head waters is the area I'm looking at hitting up. I did a driveby through the area the other day and the water is really fast moving and brown.

TheFishHunter 06-05-2011 11:12 PM

Anyone checked it out lately? I'm just wondering if it's starting to go down in volume.. or still raging...
