Three row SUVs
 

We are looking at trading in our 2010 GMC Acadia with 150k km. Looking between a Toyota Highlander and a Hyundai Santa Fe XL. Both are used and under 50k km. What are your experiences or opinions?

Dunno about the Hyundai but my son-in-law ran a Highlander 2011 to 370000 with only normal maintenance.

Highlander all the way. I also had one that was pretty touble free (older 01-07 generation) until a deer wiped it out at 398k. A few friends have santa fe’’s and they are good too but rattle a lot more than my miled out Toyota did.

highlander has the most room and ride feels like a van, i probably would go with a highlander of the 3 i try out a mdx and pilot and highlander .

We have the Santa Fe xl. Wife loves it. I was skeptical at first but have changed my mine. Tons of space, easy to fold the 3rd row seats when not in use. Ours is the limited, so second row captains seats. Making rear access much easier.
The Santa Fe itself has been very good. To many bells and whistles in my mind, but happy wife, happy life.

Had a sante fe and now have a highlander. our sante fe had 80000km and needed ty rod ends, a ball joint and something else up front. Had it towed last winter because of a faulty engine imobilizer. also had to have the proximity module replaced. Traded it for a highlander. Much more refined than the sante fe. Resale is also alot better. unless the sante fe is half the price of the highlander i wouldn't think twice about purchasing the toyota. Compare them on the lot new, they are almost the same price but the hyundai is not even in the same league when it comes to quality.

Roughly how much $ are these vehicles and what year?
Curious because I am still on the fence with a 2012 Hybrid Highlander-downside high mileage- upside-immaculate condition.

We had our 2012 Highlander written off in September, base model with about 80k on it. I ended up with a cheque for about 25k (this figure included GST) and was based on a market search of comparables. I spent 32 when I bought it new (might have gotten a good deal, not sure).

They ding for mileage at about $0.06/km over average (about 15-20k/yr)and a bit less for under.

We are on our second one and if I don't buy another RAV4, I will get another Highlander.

In terms of reliability, you really can't compete with Toyota SUVs.
The Highlander has a proven record and history.

The Highlander will cost more that's for sure but will hold its value much better, and will be easier to sell.

I've worked with many Santa Fe's though and they are great vehicles, not much for complaints.

You'll have to decide based on price, but the Highlander is definitely the superior vehicle.

The wife and I were very close to purchasing a Santa Fe back in 2015. Each of us test drove it and we did comparisons against most other SUV's. I recall we loaded one out completely and had a quote of $37k all in (new) before even negotiating at all.

We ended up overpaying for a Murano because she liked the interior a bit more and felt it drove more like a car.

I still think pound for pound the Santa Fe is the best vehicle out there.

We bought our Sante Fe XL Limited, a 2013, in 2017 for $19000.
I don't think I will ever buy another brand new vehicle...ever. Cant justify the depreciation.

MY wife has a 2017 Nissan Pathfinder and likes it.

the 3rd row can fit people, we have had 6 adults in the vehicle and nobody was crammed. she got the Platinum edition which has DVD players and what what not. I believe hers was in that $50K range if not under.

I have a 2014 Santa Fe XL, and with almost 100k on it no issues. I chose the Sante Fe because of the lower price and better warranty. That being said, buying used, with no warranty, I would go Toyota.
