Does anyone know what this reloading press is used for?

I came a cross these at a yard sale in a bucket full of reloading stuff. I think they may be Lyman because there was a Lyman Tru Line JR Gen 2 in the box of the same colour Orange. Lots of adjustment just not sure what it is for. My curiosity couldn't let me pass it buy and the price was right.

Only markings I could find it are U4, there was also a second one I picked up slightly smaller with U2 on it. Any thoughts?

It needs a good cleaning but everything is tight on it.

Looks like one of the old Herters presses .

Thanks Cat, you always seem to be on here!

So google'ing Herters and U2 or U4 didn't come up with much but I was also searching another piece of reloading equipment that came in the bucket a Lyman 450 Lube and Sizer. That I found some info on.

It design looks similar to this "press" in how it operates so I think this is also a Lube and Sizer for cast bullets. The lube would go in the centre piston and would be under pressure like a grease gun using the top screw. The bullet gets pushed down nose up into the sizer die and gets lubed buy the flutes in the the die.

Any Casters out there?

Well looks like I have gotten on the right trail. I searched google pictures for old bullet sizer and just looked though till I found one that looked right.

It looks to be a older Lyman 45 bullet sizer and lubricator. The plus side is Lyman never changed the die types used in them so its still usable and is in good but dirty shape.

http://castboolits.gunloads.com/show...be-sizer-No-45 has a bit more info on it.

Any one know the difference between the Lyman 45 U4 and U2?

Interesting, my Lynan sizer doesn't look like That!
I think mine is a 450?

Ya it doesn't look like the Lyman 450 I also got but apparently people like the older 45s better. Not sure why. I will have to give the to 45s (U2 and U4) I got a good clean up next week and find out why!
