self defense advice please

last night i caught two guys trying to steal the plates off my truck in my back alley driveway. they escaped by mere seconds in their vehicle(with no plate on it) I have a motion detector in the back that chimes in my house when there is activity on the driveway. i caught another guy taking a whizz on the driveway. on several occasions i have ran outside. sometimes a rabbit, sometimes a guy looking in vehices. what should i be taking with me back there outside of a firearm to protect myself if they decide not to run away? calling the police is a waste of time because the windows would be smashed long before they ever arrived. i am not the type of person who wants to injure anybody but i do want to protect my property without getting stabbed doing it.. any suggestions?

Set up a game camera, any type of weapon will land you in jail

This is Canada
when seconds count the police are only minuets away

Ultimate Predator 12-18-2016 05:20 PM

Pepper spay and a bat wont be able to see who cracked em!

Twist 12-18-2016 05:21 PM

Stun baton.

Check out Canada Ammo.

Just the sound is enough to make a person poo.

If you engage be prepared to take a beating.
Is it worth it?

Call the cops.

This really works

It's better to scare them away. You don't ever know if they are armed. If you want to protect yourself do nothing. Is your life worth a plate. Do you have a family that depends on you. Would you want to enjoy them or look down on them. I've had a few buddies that found out the hard way and never lived to tell about it. If the little a hole want it they are going to take it.
Now if you still want to do something about it call the cops and say your sure you saw them out there with a gun. They will come in less time then those guys can break the windows.

Your not allowed to defend property, and self defence is grey area

Twisted Canuck 12-18-2016 05:31 PM

Paint ball 'mine', and a paintball gun. You can engage from a distance, less than lethal, still stings, and it will mark the individuals for future identification. At least if the police bother to show up and take your statement.....:)

I've heard that wasp spray has better effectiveness and standoff potential than bear spray. With multiple perp's it seems prudent to not be running in unprepared. Keep in mind that car thieves typically have a flat screwdriver on them and with the drug issue these days many are no only desperate, but highly irrational. People with burning eyes are a bit easier to submit :). Big 'ol heavy zip ties and call the authorities.

No matter your tool of choice, be prepared to be victimized by both the thieves and the justice system if you are prepared to act. By law the police can only ask that you try to deter the thieves from ever trying to steal your property in the first place.

If you are prepared to live with the consequences of beating a thief, than by all means kick the ever living crap out of them. If not, call the police and be prepared to pay your deductible and increased insurance rates. In other words, it's a catch 22 situation.

Yours truly,

Harold Hugathug

Get yourself an a predictor caller. Hide it out there and tune it to the coyote food fight. Use the remote when needed.

A little less aggressive than what I would suggest, but is there any way you could sneak up on them from the alley and give them the whuppin they deserve without knowing who or what residence it came from?:sHa_sarcasticlol:

We had the same types of "back yard" issues in Calgary. After installing some fake surveillance cameras and a couple of signs that said "THIS PREMISES UNDER VIDEO SURVEILLANCE" the issues pretty much went away. Real cameras are better, but not always necessary to achieve a simple deterrent effect.

First thing. Never ask advice like this on this forum.
Talk to local Police for advice first.

elkhunter11 12-18-2016 05:54 PM

One alternative is to put on a balaclava, sneak up on them from upwind, and pepper spray them before running away. They won't know who got them, and even if they were stupid enough to call the police and tell them that they were sprayed while stealing, nobody else will be able to identify you either. :thinking-006:

purgatory.sv 12-18-2016 06:00 PM

No simple answer, but leave no evidence if you engage and are successful.

Newview01 12-18-2016 06:26 PM

Set up some claymores. Problem solved.

Holy shoot! BB gatling gun?

Imagehunter 12-18-2016 06:32 PM

Can't use bear spray, it'll be considered a weapon. Get a loud air horn :)

Living in the city has it's drawbacks. I live in the only dwelling on a quarter section of land. My answer is rock salt loads in my SBE 2 . 3 Rounds are salt, the last one is a slug...

This is the best advice so far.

Substitute the pepper spray for a 2x4 with nails sticking out of it and the lesson will become that much more memorable. Our society needs to go back to operating under the Common Law.

I have a question for hog farmers reading this thread: Will a hog carcass rolled up in chain link fencing sink to the bottom of a deep water body? Asking for a friend......

Re the big photo: Is that shotgun pellets? If so, it looks good on him!

Just leave the carcass with hungry hogs, it'll be gone soon enough...
