Any paddlefish anglers?

I wonder if anyone that goes fishing stateside ever targets paddlefish? Looks like a strong fish that makes you work. Another species to target for a north american freshwater grand slam.

An Oklahoma man caught a new record paddlefish but had to release it because it was a Friday. Anglers have to release paddlefish on Mondays and Fridays.

Supposedly estimated at 157 lb. The article has a good pic of the fish.

Ive heard they are caught in southern Montana as well..

They are found in most major river systems here. Yes they catch them in the Missouri River which runs up thru Montana. I believe someone told me years ago they caught paddles north of Fargo in the Red River which of course runs into Manitoba.
This was told to me long ago so take it as that, not my personal experience.

I’ve fished for paddlefish near Glendive Montana on the Yellow Stone River. It’s all snag fishing with some heavy duty gear . My buddy hooked into a 70lb paddle so that was pretty cool ! I’m glad I went and tried it once but wouldn’t do it again . There are some videos on Utube .

They seem cool and all but once I found out you can’t get them to bite and you resort to snagging it doesn’t sound as fun. I would try it out if I was in an area you could but would not go out of my way to target them

I've never caught them, but I've eaten paddlefish "caviar" a few times. Delicious stuff.
