Tough 5 days of fishing

Just returned from a trip down to the kananaskis area. Fished the upper Bow near Lac Des Arcs- 1 hit. Both Upper and Lower lakes- no hits. Fished Stauffer Creek on my way home- 1 hit and only 1 rising fish in about 4 hours on the water. Just a question- are the beaverdams still being managed on the creek because the lower section near the Buck for wildlife parking lot highway 761 is one beaverdam after another. This section is very silty and I did not see any fish activity at all. The upper part was better with more flow and gravel and less silt. Will the beavers begin to destroy this pretty little jewel?

Temps?

Did you happen to take any surface temps?

No I didn't. The lakes in K-country were warm for mountain lakes. Stauffer's upper reaches were quite cold. There was not any insect hatches occuring at any of the or Stauffer. Tried streamers, nymphs, and dries. Quite frustrating. trout have been tough for me to come by this season. Walleye/pike have been far more cooperative.

K-Lakes can be tough nuts to crack in terms of figuring them out. You're not the first angler to make that observation. See previous threads...

And Stauffer is one of the toughest creeks in the province. So again, don't feel out of sorts.

As for the Upper Bow, all I have heard is that since the mudslide a few years ago, the insect population was dramatically affected. That is the rumour anyways.

So it sounds like you spent 5 days chasing trout on a collection of Alberta's more challenging waters!

Stauffer beaverdams

With regards to the Stauffer beaverdams....I have been asking the same question.

In the old days, Barry M. , Don A. and some of us folks took care of them.
It then got turned over to the ACA....not much happened,
Then it got turned back to Barry...things were great again.

Now with Barry gone...I think it went back into the ACA 's hands.
ACA now claims it has been turned over to the central TU chapter.
Guess what...NOTHING is happening!

Don't know who to believe....

Remember that ACA gets over $16 of your yearly fishing licence....

Call me a masochist. Bruised ego.

By any chance is Stauffer the creek that runs along the trail from Upper Kananaskis towards the forks campground? I've walked along it and it looks enticing but don't want to waste a whole day when i could be elsewhere.
