Buffalo berry question
The Buffalo Berry crop in my part of the world was outstanding this year. Some of the bushes were so full that the red of the berries could be seen a mile away. About half of the bushes though had no berries. My question is do Buffalo Berry come in male and female? Why do half the bushes have no fruit?

As I understand it, male and female flowers are on separate plants. This is known as dioecious and explains why one shrub may be loaded with fruit and a neighbouring one have none at all. There should be references to this if you goggle Canada Buffalo Berry (Shepherdia Canadensis).

Berry
Are you talking about those grey bushes with sharp spikes?

Are these edible? Never heard of Buffalo Berries. Most important question of all - do they make good pie?

https://www.businessinsider.com/buff...rfruit-2013-11 Find buffalo berry in pheasant country, home run. They love the fruit and the cover. Nasty bush for predators to get into. |
Easy to harvest after first frost. just need a stick and a big tarp/blanket, beat the bush with a stick. Makes fantastic jelly/jam.

I have never eaten them, but a friend showed me that if you squeeze a few of them and roll them in your hands, they make a lather that can be used as soap
