Ford or Dodge?
 

Thinking of a new truck. If you had to choose, which one would get the nod? Ford or Dodge. Going to be used for hunting, fishing, etc... Thanks for your input.

Drive both.

Ford hands down.

Drive them both, read customer reviews and consider the cost of ownership (maintenance) for the period of time (or # of km's) you will drive it then, finally the resale on selling the truck after you finish with it.

Ford, bin there done that with a couple of Dodges, they cost me lots of money in repairs. Love my Ford

They all have their issues. Take one for a spin and see which one suits you.

My Dodge has cost me a reasonable amount on repairs. I am hard on it so I don’t expect it to last forever.

But a Ford wouldn’t be any better or worse. The new Super Duty’s are pretty nice.

Go with the one that you think looks better. That will be the only significant difference between the two.

Half ton ?? Using it hard?? Both crap.

Grocery getter ?? I'd say f-150 right now (newest cycle).

HD ?? Also going to give this one to Ford. Newer technology.

In a year or two when dodge puts out its next cycle of truck the answer will change.

Owned a 2014 ram and had nothing but issues. After the 4th warranty engine related repair I traded it in for a 2012 f150 FX4 and the only issue I had was a block heater leak in my first 180k. With that being said I don’t drive my trucks very hard and do my maintenance on time.

I'm hard on trucks because time is money. My dodge seems a lot tighter in the cab then a Ford I drove with similar mileage. Not as many rattles it seems. I like the dodge leather seats over all of them and the dodge dash is busy but not as busy as the Ford it seemed. I've had issues with my 3500 but more so due to the dealership. I would suggest not buying from a Grande Prairie auto group dealership. The wife's 2011 1500 has been a good truck. 260000 kms on it when we sold it. I wouldn't rule out chev either. I liked the 2009 and the 2013 I had but hard on gas and light on power.

I’m a GM guy but if I was buying a new half ton I would definitely consider a Ford. If you gave me a Dodge today it would be on kijiji tomorrow.

Still got two spicer canada u joints to take out of my ford yet, dayton ohio calipers are still going on the front haha. Some contractors use dodge alot and I cant see much special about them whenever i got to go for a drive in one. The new ford rentals are impressive but havent really been the most reliable things as far as little stuff goes. A truck is really the maintenance touch over time, i know people in the 400k range that have more reliability than than the new vehicle guy with no mechanical sense

An old crippled fellow here just bought a Dodge because it 'squats' on button command and was the easiest for him to get in and out of.

I remember the Toureg did it, did not know the pickups came with mag ride or air shocks. Kind of a nice touch. Maybe in 30-40 years I will look at a crouching truck.

I think the balance can change every few years, but believe the Ford will generally be better with meticulous maintenance than the Dodge. Which suits me fine as I like staying on top of things.

Every once in a while a manufacturer will go off on some bonehead tangent which just precludes anything I'd have to do with them. Such as a turbocharged V6 (ford), or excess bling electronics (most manufacturers these days), or garbage cheap pressed bottle-cap ball joints (dodge dak), or two-thread spark plug head ports (ford), or CVT trannies (6-cyl Subaru s), etc... But if you catch one of them in the year that you're shopping in where all their components are mostly sane, that will generally make for a positive purchase decision.

Problem is, you might not find out about some catastrophic manufacturing or design decision until owning the vehicle for several years. Remember the 2-piece Ford plugs? A horrible mess if you leave them too long, but not bad if replaced relatively soon after new and installed with nickle anti-seize down around the probe part. And I'd much rather replace an F150 starter that have to tear apart half the engine in a Tundra to get at one. Replacing F150 fluids twice as often as recommended and the VCT solenoids once in a while will prevent cam follower, chain guide, and phasor problems - but you wouldn't know that the day you took the test drive.

I test drove a new F150 and a new Dodge 'hemi' years ago when buying, and decided on the Ford despite similar purchase pricing. That's because the Dodge engine and exhaust noise reverberated like you were sitting on top of an earth mover engine. Couldn't image driving that thing for very long without getting a big headache. If a manufacturer has to resort to cosmetic crap like that for sales, I'll go elsewhere.

I would go Chev or GMC
