500 Yard Standing Offhand CHALLENGE
Sounds like there is lots of interest, so here it is ... The challenge is to shoot five consecutive shots into a 10" target from a standing offhand position from 500 yards,
THE RULES *Restricted to rifles exceeding 23 caliber (Alberta hunting legal). *No restrictions on rifle, upgrades, or optics. *Must be shot from a standing offhand position without sling support. THE TARGET *Target circle must be 10" in diameter, centered on plain paper, with border not less than 5" outside the target area. *Target must be placed at least 500 yds from the shooting position. POSTING SUCCESSFUL TARGETS *Posting a successful target requires a picture of the target panel with five shots only ... inside the target circle. No bullet holes in the border area around the perimeter of the target circle. *Post a pic of the rifle used for the CHALLENGE with details. This CHALLENGE begins Jan 1, 2015 ... so please refrain from posting "old wallet groups". Also, please use the target format suggested above ... no blister marks on old gongs, no pie plates without borders. If the "plate" is glued to the background, please post a pic of the backside of the paper as well. This CHALLENGE is for your personal satisfaction, it is not a contest. Share your passion. |

We have a timeline on this 260 Rem? I will have to source some private land to do this challenge, that takes some time.
|
I would like to add one last RULE!
It has to be with a rifle that you use to hunt BIG GAME, not GOPHERS, That's for Children! Agreed? |

First Chuck --- Good prediction regarding that being my entry...:) I have no illusions and will not even attempt.
FreeLantz - none of the CHALLENGES have and "end date" so anytime you get to it is fine. |

For those with reading comprehension issues does "offhand" mean leaning on the hood of your truck.... :thinking-006:
And what if we shoot the black circle inside a "fawn target" instead? Does that make us less manly? What if the circle is in a cow or calf elk target? How does this point system work? (I know what freehand means, but some others seem fuzzy on the subject) |

I for one totally understand what you're saying, memory still works. :) In Dick's previous words: He has been weighed, he has been measured, he has been found wanting. :fighting0074: |

I also can't help but know that I am the catalyst for this and also know that anyone participating will ALL become better, more confident shooters. Happy New Year to all. :) |
Let's not feed any trolls guys. This is a "shoot'n" challenge, it requires pictures with holes, not words with periods.

I will bet you $1000.00 that there will be at least 8 holes in my target.
Providing of course that staple holes count....lol |
Tagged.
Haha 260. I was wondering when you would do this. I'm in. Gonna practise hard for this hopefully. Work is priority now for me with break up round the corner. But will do eventually. |
Given the difficulty of putting five consecutive shots inside the plate, don't be shy about showing any pic with "just some of the five allowed" on the paper. No, they won't meet the Challenge in the OP, but they will be proof of some "damned close" resolve.

Man you are killing this thread, and I want 260's challenge to stay posted.
Bugger off already edmhunter. |
OK count me out. Best of luck to the winner, may the best man win! :)

I'd say to triple that circle size and you may get a few honest entries.
I'm not going to try. I know I won't do worth a squat as I have tried shooting the rams off hand and it is more than humbling. I will continue to try, yes TRY, to topple them every time I am out at Rosebud. I shoot at least every second week in the warmer months and I am nowhere near proficient enough to take this on. |
