Fur production based on 5 year average 36937 animals economic value last season$2,742,148 .Total economic value of all fur $3,701,926.last season.It goes without saying that the coyote a very important part of fur production in Alberta,And for sure not know or of no interest to the anties.

Only 5 years ago 2013-14 coyote fur in Alberta was $2,576,368 and total fur was $4,896,692, and 2014-15 total was $5,771,508. We better support Canada Goose so lots of parka's sold. In 2010-11 only 14,970 coyotes trapped.

Maybe not in line with the topic but I was looking at this last night.

NAFA auctions......

February 2017 - 32,271 coyotes

May 2017 - 100,000 coyotes

February 2018 - 65,000 coyotes

How many are good western coyotes though? I'm sure alot are worthless southern coyotes and a lot of eastern as well. (At nafa)

Not at all good info---yotes good business all round.

Now put it into context Dave, last year, LRD Dec 21, this year LRD Jan 8... not quite an apples to apples comparison. But there are more coyotes this year than last. Sure have been coming in easy up until now.

I agree Marty. Not a comparison, just an observation. The first auction is about the halfway point so if you double the first auction amount, it's almost exactly the same amount as in last year's two auctions. It's just an observation but it makes me think of a few different things. Number 1 is that with twice as many coyotes in the first auction I hope that coyote buyers have at least twice as much money to spend as last year......lol. I just thought that it was an interesting observation.

Yes, all factors play into the end result of course. One guy is telling me that three major EU fur designers have dropped fur due to AR pressures. We all have heard about Gucci dropping fur from their line. Guy claimed that without their pressure in the auction ring, it will be very different bidding on the high end western heavy coyotes. I do hope he is wrong. At least the top guy that always buys the top lot is still in the game and he seems to bid as high as he has to. Hopefully there are enough high end bidders this year to keep pushing him.

Can you imagine what would happen if all coyoty hunting was banned.With a 5 year average of 37,000 being harvested in alberta alone.The parks ,golf courses,urban areas would be over run.The coyoty is unique,a survivor,a very renewable resourse.The average protester,has no idea,dealing with emotion not reality.As there "say" grows it maybe only a matter of time before that reality comes home to haunt them.

Good example was recent Homestead show where Alaska family helps people develop their struggling Homestead. A Arizona family had coyotes taking their chickens, goats right beside their home almost every night, totally out of control. Free range cattle would break their fences so coyotes came right into their pens.

Dave to put NAFA sales into perspective, some sales have over 5 million pelts offered, however only about 1 million are wild fur and coyotes were 83,947.
