Hello my name is justin and this will be my first time heading out to the suffield area. I have read some great post in the past that may help me out. I have a bull elk draw and plan on getting a decent first bull any help from fellow ao members would be amazing. I plan on doing plenty it scouting and door knocking this fall. I will keep tgis lost updated as my progress continues thanks for any help in advance.

If its a military base then scouting and door knocking will be tough.

Dont plan on shooting a big bull, they arent easy to find. Take the first opportunity that you get on a bull. Head to the NWA and plan on walking north and towards the river

We hunted there last year, took all kinds of tire chains, and "extrication equipment" the roads are very good. Bring a back pack and expect to walk and expect to haul your meat out in a sled or a game cart. Don't expect big Bulls. Get to the orientation meetings early and they'll tell you everything you need to know. Don't overthink this hunt but be prepared to walk.

The elk I got last year out of there was the hardest work I have ever done for an animal

We took a bull on the base and it was brutal... tough when you have to slog miles in the dark on multiple trips. The terrain is way tougher than it looks. I’d have to rank that one up there with packing out a Yukon moose and the sheep/goat that I’ve hauled down.

You forget it later but at the time it sure sucks.

Suffield elk Nov 17th to dec 20th

726 is an off base hunt.

WMU 726 is the Cold Lake Air Weapons Range. Hunting is not allowed at any time of the year. WMU 732 is CFB Suffield. I'm pretty sure that WMU 762 does not exist according to the 2018 guide.

That’s way better than the on base hunt. I’ve been on 3 off base hints (one was my own) and all were successful. The first was the best by far, the next 2 were long and very frustrating as othe ‘hunters’ really took most of the pleasure out of the experience...

I found that we put a ton of miles on during these hunts. Scouting, walking, driving, jet boating the river... It’s an experience.

Did that hunt in 2015. Get your landowners maps and start calling now. Get down there, scout and meet some ranchers. Hope the weather gets real cold if your on the later months. Mine was Dec. And the big one, hope the un regulated hunters have better things to do this year. From what I hear from friends who have hunted these zones after 2015 & friends who have hunted inside the base since then. Numbers are way down. Cool country down there, still lots of places for elk to hide in the wide open spaces. Good luck, hope you can fill that tag. It was a great experience for me.

Good luck on your hunt Justin. I hope you get a nice bull.
I ended up getting drawn for the same zones and dates. I don't know the area well at all and plan to get out scouting in early August, meet some ranchers, and try to get permission.
