Any old surveyors here? new Land Titles
 

I'm and old land surveyor, from back in the 1970s. Back in the day, we were always going to Land Titles to pull mpas, and it was a HUGE dept. full of rolls of paper and folder vellum (what's that? LOL) and many clerks hopping back and forth to make copies.

BIG change for the better now! I was at Land Titles, at thought I'd stop in to see the Surveys dept., just for old times sake. Now, it's one tidy office, with ONE clerk, and all the maps digitized. You just call in what you need, and comes a copy. Fabulous!

Point is, all those expen$ive clerks got replaced with one clerk - big savings. And the service is better anyway! Way to go Land Titles, I salute you!

Yup ole Land Surveyor here, was in GP area whole time. Lots of changes to LTO over the years, automation sure made things better for us away from Edmonton or Calgary.

Don't even need to stop by or call if you don't want to. Can search on-line (SPIN2 I believe), pay by card, and have it e-mail to you in about 2 minutes.

I wasn't the crew chief I was the guy that held up the rod and went to Land titles to pick up maps. In our office there was machine that printed blueprints it smelled like ammonia and took up a whole room, anybody remember the teletype machine modern technology then. These days everything is GPS and email I wonder if anybody still uses a chain anymore.

I doubt if they even pack a plumb bob anymore, most won't know what a chain is, and I really doubt if anything over 5 feet is measured manually anymore. Technology has taken over big time. And it works good.

Ha ha, good one - I remember I once shut down a pro/anti metric measurement argument. The old pro-feet guy thundered "this land was measured in miles, and it should stay that way!"

Feeling impish, I said, "Actually it was measured in chains"

The argument quickly fizzled out. Still love that memory.

I learnt surveying with chains, the new kids have a puzzled look when I tell them.
