Quadding Plane Crash Site Trail?
 

Back in 2012 (I believe), we went on the Plane Crash Site Trail just outside Coleman (in the Crowsnest Pass). We tried to get to it with our quads, but we were only to get so far. We had to turn around when we came to a big mud hole that there seemed to be no way to get around. I seem to remember it was just before a part of the trail that zig zagged up the mountain (I have included a picture of the mud hole). I'm wondering if anyone has been up there since and if there's anyway around that mud hole (Please don't say to go around on the bank or to go through it, I tried both)? If there is, how hard/dangerous is the rest of the trail (The reason I ask is we only have Kawasaki KVF 360 quads)? If not, how long of a hike would it be from there?

Ive never been to that trail, but I agree with previous responce. I use to take a 91 Honda 300 up trails ten years ago, now I get laughed at for taking anything smaller then a 800. If it was not passable then, probably not passable now.

Been up there many times. 2012 being the most recent. We took up a 650 Kawasaki, 600 Polaris, 400 Suzuki and a 350 Honda. Going across the avalanche was the hard spot. Saw another group of quadders and they turned around and said it was too hard for them. At least they knew there limitations before getting hurt. I would say 1.5 hour hike from where you took that picture, I know the spot. That hillside is always wet and slimey. We came across all female hikers they camped at the plane crash and intended to cross over the divide the next day into BC somewhere.

That trail is a designated ATV trail.

Shout out to Honda for actually making an informative answer to the OP's query.

I just got back from riding up there yesterday, and am going back today. The ATV club in the pass has done a lot of work to make it easier to get up there. (Drained water holes, Cut new trails). I'm not sure as of where that hole is exactly, but its definitely easy to get up now. As of yesterday, the last 500m of the trail was all snow and I couldn't get any farther on a bike without sinking. The only one out of our group that was able to get anywhere was a small little racing quad that didn't sink through the snow and could just barely ride on the top.

I uploaded a picture for you that might help pending that mudhole is where I think it is. But thats a big IF lol. The green star is the new corner/entrance that the pass club cut to go up to the plane crash. The red line is the path that jumps off the main trail, zig zags up the hill and orange star is where your mud hole. Lots of riders haven't liked it and made a new path where the purple line is thats easier to get up. The blue rectangle I put in there is an actual quad crossing bridge over the stream, so thats the easiest way up. The trail after that is all good. Find the bridge, and you're golden.

It was a little poke for fun. Guys do that and I will tell you for sure that if we came across this on a trail we would help the fella get past it. That's what good people do.

That sounds right. I'm not sure why we didn't go that way before. I was able to pull up this track that I made when we went last time with Google My Tracks. Hopefully the weather is nice later this week and we'll give it a try again. Any signs of bears or cougars?
